May 21 to June 8, 1853

The 21st: “…at the academy where they was reher(sing) plays-I want to go to 
Sardis-so I went to John Childress”.

The 22nd: “stade all nite-got a horse went to Sardis-a good maney persons out-
G. W. W. there-me and him together-J. W.(White?)prayed-C.C. White preached_Text 
57C & 11C of Isaiah-John Skipper exorted-me & D. L. C.(Coleman?)went home with 
G. W. W.-stade all the eve-we all came out toward stall worth’s-G. W. W. stoped 
there-we came on-I stoped at J. c. left the horse-came on home-no body-so I 
went to Mr. O.(O’Dell’s)-E. D. O.(Oslin?) was there-we came on together B. G. 
H.’s-he stade all night with me-so ends…”

June 1st: “yesterday and the day was rain-still cl(cloudy?)-we are all 
preparing for the examination and exhibition”.

The 4th: “they(were)all acting their plays-I drew the curtain for them as I had 
no part in it- I am persewing for an education-not to lear(n?) to act(?)farce & 
c.”.

The 5th: “I went to Mt. B. church to meeting-Mr. O.(preached)Text 2C 1 to 5 Vs
(no book)-M. J. O. went with me-came back together-G. W. W. was there-at four 
in the afternoon No (Noah?)Duffee preached at the academy-Text 121 Pslams 6V-
The sun shall not smite the by day nor the moon by night”.

The 7th: “rehersel of the plays”.

The 8th: “this morning had an introduction to Mr. Jasper Hilsman-commensed exam
(ing) me in English Grammar and Rhetoric-The plays that was acted was Grimshaw 
Le(?) Tic(?)”.
