KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 26 of 137) July 30 to August 8, 1853 The 30th continued: “then Mr. Hilsman red the best pease I ever heard-Dr. Sims then spoke, S. O. & then closed-C. D. Hooks came to his fathers today-in the eve we all went up to the store”. August 1st: “I am unprepared this morning to meet it-where was I last year the 1st day of Ag.-in Dooly sick-very warm-today I am getting along very well” The 2nd: “…rain last night…I came here(school)to write some comp(compositions?)- [1 of J. B.(John Bryans*)negros dide last night-a boy]’. The 3rd(?): “…I did not think Mr. Hil.(Hilsman)gave me justice today-W. W. he hope (helped)work some sums”. The 4th: “warm-B. G. H. is preparing to go to the camp meeting”. The 5th: “we all started to the C. G.(campground)-very warm-I went and ate diner at T. J. M.-then went by our old place to the C. G.-warm-I felt some what conserned about my souls well fare-as I feel that I am yet out of the ark of safety”. The 6th: “a good many out at the C. Ground-the text may all (be) found father on”. The 7th: “more people than I beleave I ever befor saw here at once-I never enjoyed my (self?)as well as I wished to do-so many & it is so warm”. The 8th: “a good many persons was there-I was trying…” _________________________ *John Bryans & wife Cassandra were the parents of many of the other Bryans noted in the diary.
