KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 30 of 137) August 26 to September 2, 1853 The 26th continued: “to W. T. T.s to get some peaches and mellons”. The 27th: “after breakfast me & C. D. H. fixt for to go to Sardis-very warm-we got there- C. C. White preached-Text 46V 7C. of John-we all elected(?) del (delegates-?)for to go to the association-M. Reeves, J. Skipper, H. Mase, J. M. Bledsau, J. Hail, Bledsau(?), W. C. (?)Welch-I then went to S. Moore’s all night”. The 28th: “10 o’clock started to meeting at R. J. Harper’s-I met up with Mrs. Harper-she told me that on the 4 day of August her son Elicha(?)died-he lived in Elbert Co. Ga-J. Sk. (John Skipper?)preached-Text was about the wedding sup. (supper)-I do not mind where it is a present-came home stoped at J. E. B.s-got a fine chance of mellons-they came home-I was here writng”. The 29th: “I came to the school house-we commensed prepar(e)ing for an examination next Friday-it will come off whether prepared or not”. The 31st: “…I drempt last night that I saw C. C. W.-he pr(preached)here today- this day six years ago my dear sister Rebecca left this world-I feel thankful that it has not fel to my lot yet”. September 1st: “…(this day 6 years ago I followed my sister to the grave-that was a very foggy morning-I went(to)store W. Stargell(Wm. Stodghill?)then to R. J. Harper’s as he was making the coffin)-tomorrow is our examination day…”. The 2nd: “I am tolerable well prepared for the day-mist of rain all day-a good many persons here conc-idering the state of the wether-I made one mistake in working a sum-in Alegbra 22 sum page 112-Philosophy, Botany, and Rhetoric I was not examined in-not time”.
