October 12-21, 1853

The 12th: "I worked the road from Sharon to J. H.s came back-the patterns
(patrons) employed Mr. H. to teach school the next year at this place".

The 14th: "...went to the store for to do some writng for Hooks & McMullen(?)".

The 15th: "...came to the school hous-went back to prepare to go to Sharon-Mr. 
H. came and went with me-we walked-this day Mr. F.(Fargason?)was turned out of 
the church- I went to L. H. t.s stade all night".

The 16th: "came to meeting-this morning C. C. W. Pr. Text 2C. 5V of Duteronemy
(?)-the people went out-so he just quit & dismissed-I came home through J. C.
(Childress?) plantation -H.s family was not at home-I went to Wm. T. T.-ate 
dinner then stade all of the eve till bed time-came home-nobody at home-I stade 
a short time-they came home from Mr. O.s-so (spent?)the 16th day of October 
1853".

The 17th: "...I have been some time studing out w(h)at to do next year-whether 
it would be the best for me to go to school or not-H.s at noon said he was 
going to move next Mo.- so I will have to move(he has been speaking of mov(ing)
sometime)somewhere else-I will go to to Mr. A.s I recon-for I expect to move 
there to board next year".

The 19th: "just befor I went to set down to breakfast A. Danel came with a 
supeniona(?-
subpoena)for me to attend court as a witness of L. H. T.-after breakfast I went 
to L. H. T.s got a mule-went to town-in eve came to L. H. T.s with W. S. 
Fargason-W. B. A.(William Barton Ammons)came as far as his house with us-W. S. 
F. stade at L. H. T.s-in..."

The 20th: "morning we went to town".

The 21st: "went to town by myself but L. H. T. furnished me with a mule to ride-
after(?) the time C.(court)adjourned...".
