October 21-30, 1853

The 21st continued: "..they made up that affare without me-in eve-me (&) W. B. 
A. came on together-W. H. T. & J. Dolton came on together in a buggy (to)W. B. 
A.-then me & J. D. came on together to L. H. T.-as we left W. H. T. we both 
mounted the mule-down went the animal to the ground- a arrose but it was after 
we dismounted-we went to L. H. T.- lodged all night".

The 22: "...me, Camel(?) & Levi A. T. went to S. F.s to carry his saddle-he 
came back with us-W. B. A., W. H. T.-I stade till about 11 O'cl.-all went of(f) 
but Dolton-I came home-dined then-(then)-went to the store to court-L. H. T. 
came there-to day was my meeting day but could not go(to Sardis)".

The 23rd: "all day till evev L. C. & wife was there-went of(f)-I went to W. T. 
T.s till nearly night".

The 24th: "....[weather report]...me and C. D. H.(Hooks)stade together".

The 25th: "white frost-I went from school home with D. L. C. all night".

The 26th: "he never came to school-but him & A. J. A. went to Dr. Bryans-I came 
to the school-commensed raining 10 (?)at night".

The 27th: "...much rain-no school-here nearly all day-went to store-Jas. 
Rodgers*(?)was there-a young man that was baptized when I was".

The 29th: "I thought I would go to J.(Joseph T.)Knowles in Newton(?)but did not 
go-hope M. J. O. fetch some hogs for L. M. F. home-came here to write this".

The 30th" "I was at home all day till in the eve-went to W. T. T.s-came back-
took a mason journal-I went(?)...".

*Rogers & James Knowles are noted as joining the church in Sardis Baptist 
Church minutes, but there is a slight variance in dates with those of the diary.
