The 21st: "Raining came to school-Mr. H. never came-I came home still rain(ing)- after noon I went with Mr. 1 to S. Shoals-came back". The 22nd: "went to school-he came and adjourned until Monday mor.-I came home went to P.-came back-after noon went to store-here all the evening-Mr. B. (Bryan's?)came for me to go with him tomorrow above McDonough where he was going to have some land surveyed". The 23rd: "I went-it was(strange?) land for me-came home very well pleased-but did want to go to Cos. Memory Turner's-I saw him-but Mr. 1 had loaned me a mule- so I came home". The 24th: "I went to W. H. B.s all day-Mr. 1 went to Sardis". The 27th: "at school-Mr. & Mrs. 1 went to M.(?)C. T.(Turner's?)-I came home- rain in the eve". The 29th: "pleasant mo.-went to school-Mr. H. rec'd(?)a letter from his father that his mother was very sick-["(I am very sick-flue(?)"]. The 30th: "he start(ed?)to his father's and has not returned". October 1st: "went to Mr. O.(O'Dell's)all day-they went to W. H. B.s". The 2nd: "me & Mr. 1 went to S. S. mill(Snapping Shoals)-came home-went to P." The 3rd: "went to McD,(McDonough)rec'd $65 from Col. L. T. D.(Doyle?)-same(?) day came home". The 4th: "went hunting in the mo.-came back without success-in the eve Mr. J. B. came-we all went to see McGraw's cotton as it was said to be fine". The 5th: "at home-wrote a letter to Pa". The 6th: "to John B.s(Bryans')-me & Mr. 1 came back about noon-in the eve went again to get some surveying(?) instruments(?)-he cared(carried?)a L.(load?)of corn".
