KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 65 of 137) December 23-29, 1854 The 23rd continued: "..I received 4 letters containing Great news-1 from Mr. 1, W. H. Speir, Wm. H. Bryans, (&) R. J. Harper-some gave plesure while others gave pain-those letter(s)will be recorded in a letter book-my-[mind]-was so flusterated that I could not sleep-they wanted me to come back and teach wher (e) I had been going for the two last years-as Mr. Hilsman was kilde". The 24th: "My mind still fl.(flew?)-I want to start back to Henry-I suppose I will start tomorrow-very pleasnt (? ? ?) clouds". The 25th: "Christmas day-5 Ocl. arrose prepared to start-so about 6 me & Pa left as he was coming with me to the cars-very warm-we came tolerable fast to get us near the cars as we could-about 10(?)we stoped a short time-then I left him-came on-but when I got in about 3 miles of Montezuma(?)-I heard the cars leave Oglethorpe(?)for Macon-1 mile from-I then (k)new I was too late & stoped at Mr. Thompsons & lodged with him untill 12 Ocl. the next day". The 26th: "At 12 left for Montezuma-it was raining-at two left for Maco(n)-at 5 arrived-at 8 p.m. left Macon for Griffin-10 arrived-lodged at G.[Georgia] Hotel". The 27th: "Left for Bersheba-came on foot to L. H. T.s in McDonough-at din.- came on-arrived at Bersheba 1 1/2 hours by sun-they all want me to take a school here-went to Mr. 1-I was happy to see him-all night". The 28th: "me & Mr. 1 went to J. B.s(John Bryans)-saw him-to W. H. T.s to see him as he was sick-came back-came to Bersheba-went back to Mr. 1's". The 29th: "came B.(Bersheba?)all day-M. J. O.(O'Dell)was here went to J. Hooten's all night-me & M. J. O. came to the (? ?)...".
