KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 67 of 137) January 12-20,, 1855 The 12th: "When I awoke and arrose Mr. Bryans told me three barrels of sirup had come for me-he brot one to his house-(I)-it came in bad order-I told him if he would give 55Ë per gallon he could have it-he agread to take it-I left for Mr. 1's as he had brot 2 bbls.-when I saw them-I saw they were in bad order-I told Mr. 1 he could have 1 at 55Ë-he agread- & to tak(e) the other one to Speir's at noon & I would meet him there-so he came at 1 Ocl.-at 4 dismissed sch.-came to store-I was pestered about what to do with it & c.-for it was leeking out bad". The 13th: "I started to store but met Mr. 1 going to D. McCoy's(?)-I wanted to see him-Mr. 1 told me to go to his house & get a horse & come go with him-I done so-came on-went-saw him-blustry ("Mr. 1- [long coded passage]-" )-came back-dined with him-we then went to Bersheba & drew off said barrel of S. (syrup)-settled with J. E. Buntyn-$5-my mind (? ?) -came to Mr. 1's shaved-went to home(W. H. Bryans)all night-blustry & cold". The 14th: "Cold-but was a p. day-here with Mr. B.(Bryans)-noon started to take a walk-went to Mr. 1's-he saw me & called me in-then we went by W. H. Speir's to the Academy- came back toward his house-stoped to have a talk for about & hour-then came to his house-spent the eve-I came on to Mr. B's". The 17th: "25-[students]-went to Mrs. Hilsman's at noon". The 18th: "sold T. H. B. the other barrel of sirup". The 19th: "sent of(f) 6 letters-received 1 from M. J. O.(O'Dell)". The 20th: "In the morning Mr. 1 came to Mr. B's-I went home with him-we both went to Sharon".
