KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 79 of 137) August 6-19, 1855 The 6th continued: "..and expected to go with Mr. 1 in buggy-but when I went home-Mr. 1 had made arrangements for W. H. B. to go with him-which I did not like-but sed but little-I went rode horse back -I was pestered all day about it & c.-last night a good rain". The 9th: "Mr. & Mrs. 1 left for Cartersville & Sedartown to see their relations & expect to be gon 10 or 12 days-I am left by myself-at night M. J. O.(O'Dell) stade with me". The 10th: "came on to school-in the evening received a letter from Dr. T. F. Green of Midway Ga-informing me of the death of Abner*-was dede(?)in the Asilumm (?)with a kind of disentery". The 11th: "went to T. H. B.'s(Bryans')-stade till eve-then started here to a speaking-met his father going to his house-went back-then to his house to get some mellons-then came home". The 12th: "Went to meeting Turner's church-George Nolin preached-from thence to Sarah Turner's-thence to S.(Sabbath?)School-home at night-(went?)patroaling(?) to T. H. B. to W. G. (&-?)C. Z.(Zachry?)to A. Hern(?)'s home-to W. H. B.'s-I left them-then came home". The 16th: "very warm-extremely(? ? ?) hot"[above line: "Joseph Dukes died]-- [below line: "went to Chaffin's berring"]-Wrote one letter to Pa., 1 to M. C. Turner & family-We had a drowth of 5 weeks from the first or third(?)of July which made vegetation quake" The 18th: "Went to plantation-came back-went to church-Br. C. C. W.(White)P. (preached)-came home by store-stoped-(then?)went home-loansom as Mr. 1 was absent". The 19th: "Went back to church preaching-Wm. Skinner came home with me-we went back to the meet(ing)of the Etho(pians?)-[slave services?]". _____________________ *Abner Knowles was a member of the James Knowles Sr. household-1850 Henry Co. census-and moved to Dooly Co. with the family. Not mentioned as a "brother", he was likely a first cousin of young James Knowles.
