KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 80 of 137) August 20 to September 14, 1855 The 20th: "came to school-at noon went to sto(re)-bought me 1 satten vest $3.50- I am much pestered about a school for next year-I exp(ect)to try for school at this place-get it or not". The 21st: "Commensed raining befor day-continued-came to school-4 schollars-Mr. 1 not returned-cool for the season". The 23rd: "Mr. 1 came home-I went home to see him at noon". The 24th: "had an examination in the eve-some spectators" [above line "received ltr(?)from Elizabeth"-his sister]". The 25th: "went by Nesbit's to Pla.(plantation)-came back-in eve went to store". The 26th: "went to S. S.(Sabbath school?)-he went with me-came back-Wm. H. B. came all eve". September 1st: "me & T. H. Bryans went round for to try to make a school-got 14 scholars-rain yestoday eve & today". The 2nd: "went to school-t(h)en to B. A.(Barton Ammons?)-he was not at home- then to W. S. F.(Fargason's?)-he was not at home-then to S. T.-he was there-we started back to meeting at T.'s(Turner's)church-went to S. F. all the eve-came home". The 4th: "went to Town with Mr. A's-came home to politcal speaking" The 8th: "with Mr. 1 all day-in eve came to store-Mr. 1 & Mr. S.(Speir?)had a little falling out-went home-to plantation-came back". The 9th: "went to S. S. all of us-came home-at home all the eve-this week at school 15 to 20 scholars-some of his negroes sick" The 12th: "at night Mr. 1's child very sick". The 13th: "at night like to have died-[above line: "I went to J. B.'s-came back"]. The 14th: "went to meeting-came home I. H. B., wife and (? ? ? ?)..".
