KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 83B* of 137) November 1-11, 1855 The 1st: "to W. (Bill)Capes to G.(George?)Hayes-back by J. Hooten's-Mr. 1 with me-in eve to Hamp's". The 2nd" "went to S. Shoals-came home by 12 Ocl.-I know not where I will go this eve-warm for the season-cotton 8 Ë-went to Hamp's-came home-Mr. 1 with me". The 3rd: "He went off-I went to s(t)ore-came back-in eve he went to J. Bryans-I went to store". The 4th: "Went to W. Greer's-I went on to T. H. Bryans-in eve to a berial of Derden's child-I then went back to T. H. B.'s-c.(came) home". The 5th: "With Mr. 1 to E. Nesbit's-came back-he -[long coded passage]- cloudy & wind blowing". [beneath line- "I came to the Academy"] The 6th: "Rain-I went to town-I wanted Mr. 1 to go with me-I went by myself-L. H. T.'s child was beried-I went to the academy-came home-in morning I came up with them going from the berial". The 7th: "I went with Mr. 1 to Honey creek-I went to (? ? ? ?)-came home in eve- he went off as if he was angry with me-he went to T. Thrasher's". The 8th: "he started to J. B.'s-I went to J. Morgain's-to J. B.(?)with him & asked him what was his motive for acting in such a way with me-he said none only he thought I would not go-I asked him if he disliked my company-he said he loved to be with me-I refered him to the first Tuesday in last August-I told him it looked like he was willing to have my company [only] when he could get no other-but he said it was not so-he stade at J. B.(which is his Farther in law)-till I came back-we came on together-all night". The 9th: "In morning I went to S. Shoals and in eve we went to Barton's-came home-after night-cold & windy"- [between lines: "went by Hollans(?)-H(?)ubert was there"]. The 10th: "We went to S. Turner's-came home-Hubbert was there-Henderson came- [both Bryans]-I went to store-W. H. Speir paid me 229 Dol.-H. & H.[here]all night".
