KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 87 of 137) December 22-31, 1855 The 22nd continued: "Came to an old house-Mr. 1 told me that some of my patterns (patrons)was wanting another Teacher-which mortified my feeling very much-came to Hamp's-then home-in eve went to store and to G. House-came back". The 23rd: "W. H. Bryans came with his family-all day-some rain & clast cloudy- it looks like Christmas was(was) near at hand". The 24th: "some rain-to T. T.'s-but he got with W. H. B.-I went to Morgain's-in eve went to Jas. Hootens-I took an account on Mr. 1 from J. H.-came back-went to L.(?-or S.-?) Turners-then home-I went to Ba(r)tons he(he) was not at home-I came back to W. H. T.'s-lodged". The 25th: "Christmasday-rain all day-in eve I went to his house again-at night it blew off very cold". The 26th: "Very cold all day-in eve came home-cold-I. B. B. came from store- home with us all night". The 27th: "cold-I know not where I will go today-cool-no rain-in eve Mr. Mrs. 1, me & Br.(Brooks?)went up the road-they went to Bartons-we went to W. H. T.s- cloudy-at nine(?)came to his fathers-J. B.-all night". The 28th: "rain all day-in eve we came to the stor(e)-I came home-I. H. Bry. with me-he stade all night" The 29th: "me, Mr. 1 & I. H. B. went to his farther's-rain and thunder-in eve we came home-I went to L. Turners all night-lodged". The 30th: "We all went to church-I went with M. G. & M. Day'ly-clear windy cool- I came home-Mr. 1 & W. H. B. was there-they went (to)Hamp, & left word for me to come there & take dinner-but I did not except(accept)-I came & fed horse- went to S. T.s-came home-C. C. White (here?)all night". The 31st: "(I loan[ed] him $430.00-some[sleat?]-then we went to store & Gin house-came..".
