December 31 to January 11, 1856

The 31st continued: "..back-cloudy-came home-in eve went to S. Shoals-cold and 
cloudy-came home".

January 1st: "went to town-cloudy-Mr. A. went with E. Copland in bug(gy)& I had 
to go by myself which vext me much-and when will I forget it-he (k)new I was 
going, then for him to just to go with Copland-but what makes it go so heard
[hard] with me-I do not like his apearance much-this is the first day of the 
year-I may forgive him-but when will I forget it-Mr. 1 gave me more pain by 
that act than he ever did befor-he gave me an interduction to J .Rutledge his 
cousin-he came home with (us)me-a good many persons in town-in the morning 
received 6 Dollars-G. W. Welch borrowed 3 dollars of(f) me-cool & cloudy".

The 2nd: "Rain-cold-J. R. here all day".

The 3rd: "cold-went to Pla.-in eve we went with him [J. Rutledge]to Barton's-
came home-cold & windy".

The 4th: "Went to S. T.s (? ? ? ?) -came home".

The 5th: "At Mr. 1 where he is raising a Crib-cold & some clouds".

The 6th: "very cold-went to Pl with him-came back-in eve they went to E. C.s
(Copeland's) I stade at home".

The 7th: "Commensed school-7 schollars".

The 8th: "Mr. 1 went to Covington-J. W. R.(Rutledge?)came at night-I went to a 
party-C. T. Zackry's (ca?) good many (of) the night-came 1/2 after 1-very cold".

The 9th: "Mr. 1 came home".

The 11th: "Commensed snowing-5 schollars-all went home-then sleat all day & 
night-I am much trubled about my school as they was talking about getting 
another Teacher in my stead & it looks to me as if Mr. 1 was at a [distance?] 
from what he always has been- whether he [small script below line?]".
