KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 89 of 137) January 12-20, 1856 The 12th: "Much troubled-I paid him 5 dollars for Board from 17th day of Nov to 1st day of January-I have been here about 10 day(s) sence 17th of No.-we then went to store-to court(?)-I had but little to say to him-came home-J. R., me & him went Rabbit hunting- but little to say-came home-snow 4 inches deep". The 13th: "In morning much Troubled-hardly a word to say-so I went to W. H. B. all day-came home a little releaved-had some lit(tle) to say". The 14th: "went to school house-no one came-I came home-in eve went to J. B.- started to T. T.s-met W. H. B.-came back-we talked a about the distence he had shown to me-he said he never me(a)nt any harm in the world(?) & would not have done it if had of had any ida of it hurting my fealings-so we came on-I was much releaved(the 1st day of Jay. causes this)". The 15th: "went Hunting-to Gin house-to school H.-no one came-in eve we went Ra. (rabbit) Hunting with E. C. & son-came home-still very cold". The 16th: "A(t) home & in eve went to store-W. H. S. has left the store-Mr. 1 went to Coplens hous(e) without saying a word to me-so I left him & came home- he came and made an apolog[? ?- apology] for leaving me so''. The 17th: "We went to W. B. A.s-came home in eve-Mr. 1 is very kind to me & ever has been-but appears or did appear to me that he was more distant that he had been-but he told me that it was from no disrespect to me-but he still liked me". The 18th: "H(e?) went to work on Gardain- at 10 a negro woman took a fit for 4 hours-in eve I went to S. Shoals for him to get some nails & the doctor-the doctor came with me-she was much beter". The 19th: "We went to church-came home-some rain but sleat still on the ground". The 20th: "Mr. 1, J. W. R., & myself went to church-came home-very cold-in eve J. R. went to McMulans(?).."
