January 20-28, 1856

The 20th continued: "Mr. 1 to sleep in eve-he appeared very kind to me"

The 21st: "came to school-very cold-5 schollars".

The 22nd: "5 sch.-I dismissed untill Monday-came home-in eve went to store-came 
home with E. Hooten-then took my horse to H.[Hartsfield?] Moor's-then to S. Mo
(or's?) all night".

The 23rd: "To T. J. Martins, to T. O. M., to W. Capes-home-Mr. 1(?)gon to 
Bartons-in eve I went to J. A. Childress (? ? ?)-came home-at night he came 
home".

The 24th: "With him to S. Shoals-came home-wrote him a let(ter) to Jas. Young & 
expected he was going to Covington-as in the first of the week he said he was 
going-I told him I would go with him-he defeared from some cause-it appeared as 
if it was because I  wanted to accompany him-but I know(?) not for what".

The 25th: "I was much hurt about it & thought I would go by myself-so I started-
gave it out-went to L. H. T.(my business in Co.[Covington]was to see Levi(?) 
Clark-so I saw L. H. T.-we made other arrangements)-(in the mor. Mr. 1 went to 
W. Capes with E. C.-when he went to store he asked me if I was going up the 
road-I told him I recon not)-came back-in the eve he asked me what was the 
matter with me-I never give him any satisfaction-but will".

The 26th: "sleated all day-I went to Post Office-came back".

The 27th: "Here in eve-him & J. R. went off-he asked me to go with them-I did 
not go-it appeared to me he is fond of my company when he could [not] get any 
other-is the reason I did not go & c.-sleet has not been of(f) the ground in 2 
weeks-or from Friday 11th-the(y)came back & went off again-I still stade at 
home-I feel offal(awful) bad--feel cramped".

The 28th: "I went with him to J. B.-came back-Hamp. told him if he would go 
next day with him to I. H. B.s-he asked me if I would accompany them..".
