January 28 to February 8, 1856

The 28th continued: "I told him I recond I would".

The 29th: "He sent to Hamp. to get a mule to work to his bug(gy)-but he came 
horseback & they went horseback-I went to store-to S. T.s-came back in eve-went 
back to store-at night they came home".

The 30th: "wrote Mr. 1 a letter to Henry R. Harris(?)-in eve went to store-he 
road my horse to J. B.s-came back-asked me if I wanted to go with him to 
Covington next day".

The 31st: "We went-loded-started from store 10 O-went by R.(Rocky)Plains-we lay
(?) [out?] on our [way?] to Cog. at the same place we did w(h)en we went last 
fall-14th(?)"
[beneath line- "lay on the snow"]

February 1st: "went in town could not sell stored cotton-we left Cog. 12 Ocl.-
by ourselves-came home-heard that Mem(ory) Turner was in sleet on the grave
(? ?)".

The 2nd: "I wanted to see Mem-I started on horse B.-Hamp was going with him- 
[but] he did not wish to go-so he brough(t) back my horse-I went on with Mr. 1-
dined at W. H. T.s (his father's)-then to Tom Russels & Robert(s) R.-came home 
at night-some(?)snow on g.".

The 3rd: "Went to church-J. R.(Rutledge?)with us-came home-cold & (? ?)-in eve 
Mem(?) & Barton came to Mr. 1's all night".

The 4th: "came to school 1/2 after 9-no one came-I came home-went to store or 
shop-we ground an ax-came home".

The 5th: "we went to town-we went horse B.-a good many in town-Dr. B.[J. H.(?)
Bryans] came on back with us-cold".

The 6th: "Went to school-no one came-home-went to shop-came home-wrote a letter 
to Pa".

The 7th: "came to Acd(y)-no one came-home-we went to Wm. Greer's to J. B.s-back 
to T. H. B.s-at(e) din.-to Wm. Greer's-he bought a mule-came home-went to Pl.-
came back-raining".

The 8th: "to Acd.-no one came-home-with Mr. 1 to Shoals.."
