KNOWLES, 1852-1858(page 94 of 137) March 4-16, 1856 The 4th continued: "..going with me for 3 or 4 times I asked him". [beneath line: "he came home"] The 5th: "He asked me for my horse-I told him I recond he could get him-he said if I did not want him to ride him he would not think h(e)ard of it (&?) so he left for Pl.-came home in eve & we went to plantation where he anticipated there was a Coon dened-came home-I told him if he would go back in the morning I would go with him-soon-he left at 6 Ocl. to P.". The 7th: "A(t) school-about as many as was y-day". [confusion of dates-double entry] The 7th: "Soon in the morning he left for the Pl.-not come back-I shaved & came to the store-about 11 Oc(L) he came-I had but little to say to him as it appeared to me as if he was mad-I came home in eve-left my horse-went back to the store-then me, him & Hamp came home together-I said but little to him-but we commensed talking about me not letting him have my horse-he partially cleared it up-[beneath line: "all words backwards"] The 9th: "In morning we went to lot(he told- [long coded passage]- fourteen-T. H. B. came-him & Mr. 1, me & J. R. went to S. Shoals to meeting-Yarby P. Mrs Garllenton's funerel-came home-went in eve towards Pl.-came back-pleasant-about midnight blew off cold". The 12th: "went to store at noon & bought 12 yds. (m?) home-I caried it to S. T.s-went home-Thomas lodged with us last night". The 13th: "Rain-9 schollars". The 14th: "21 schollars-Mr. 1 rode my horse to Town-came home". The 15th: "He asked me to go with him to plant.-I went-came home-we went to church-I. H. B. came home with us-pleasant-Mr. & Mrs. 1 went with I. H. B. to H.'s all night". The 16th: "They came home-They & I went to church-came home-Br. C. C. W.(White) came home with us-in eve..".
