April 27 to May 11, 1856

The 27th continued: "..in eve to New Hope-W. preached J. F. Welches child's 
funeral-came home-sick".

The 28th: "Let Mr. 1 have fifty dol.-some rain".

The 29th: "(My horse will go by name of Elise)-Mr. 1 went to town(?)-road my 
horse-about 30 sch.-I w-(f?)eel very bad all day-in eve went to Mrs. T.s
(Turners)with Mr. 1 to get her to come the next day-to help Mrs. 1 make a coat".

The 30th: "She stade all night- [long coded passage] -we in eve talked a good 
deal about S. & c.".

May 2nd: "We went to Pl.-came back-went to look at Carpenter lot of land-to S. 
Moors-to R. J. Harper's-home in eve-he had promise(d) to go with me to Dr. 
Brantley's-but he lay down to sleep & would not go)-I left to go by myself 1/2 
aft. 3 Ocl.-he was not at home-Jas. Hester was-I got four med(medicines?)-came 
home 10 Ocl. at night-I was angry because he did not go".

The 4th: "Myself, Mr. & Mrs. 1, J. R. & F. E. B. all went to Countyline-a great 
many-Mc Micle(McMichael?)preached Mrs. Merser's funerel-came home-a storm just 
as we arrived-some rain".

The 6th: "I went to Town(I went to Barton-hi(t)ched my horse to his buggy-went 
on)-I went for to b(u)y Cos.(cousin?) Lena Hartsfield('s) [buggy?] bot. it-came 
back to Bartons-ate sup.-to home 9 Ocl.-it has been cloudy all day-some rain 
tonight-cool for the season".

The 9th: "Dismissed school at fore(4)-went with Mr. one to river-came home".

The 10th: "We went fishing-caught 21-came home-in eve to store-I went to S. T.s-
received a letter from Pa-I got very tiard(tired) of the store-came home & left 
him at store-very pleasant eve-but [coded words]".

The 11th: "I went to Sabbath School-asked Mr. 1 to go with me-he would not-I 
came home-we went to.."
