May 31 to June 17, 1856

The 31st: "we went fishing-came home-then to Butlers Bridge Letting(?)-to J. 
B.s-myself Mr. A. Barton & P. B. Turner went fishing all eve-came home".

June 1st: "Went S. School & meeting-I went home with E. F. B.(Elizabeth Bryans)-
spent E.(eve?)-came by Hamp-stoped-then home".

The 2nd: "went to store at noon-le(n)t E. Crowell $100 dolars for a note on F. 
M. & J. Hail".

The 3rd: "went to town-myself & Mr. 1 & J. B.(John Bryans)-my horse to B.s 
Buggy-I told Barton(Last Sat.)-probale I would come by & work my horse & his to 
his carriage-Mr. 1 told me he was angry with me for not coming & c.-very warm-
some rain".

The 6th: "I wrote a letter to H. V. Miller(my old school Teacher-he was a young 
man then-now married".

The 7th: "I Went with Mr. 1 & Cop.(Copeland?)to river-we le(f)t Co.-came home-
then we came to store till noon-came home all eve-rain & wind-J. R. went to 
McMulans(?)at- [coded passage]".

The 8th: "I went to S. School-from thence (to) Turners Church to L. H. T.s-in 
eve (to) Bartons-stade till near 9(?)Ocl.-came home-I asked him if he was angry 
with me-he decided in the negative-but said I disappointed him-so that was 
settled-all men has their difficulties(?) to contend with".

The 14tH: "We went to Pl.-went in washing-(swimming)-came back-went to church-
came home in eve-to store to court".

The 15th: "Went to Church-J. R.(Rutledge)with me-I came home-he went to G. W. 
McM.(McMullans?)-Mr. 1 came home all eve-I went of(f) in woods to pray".

The 17th: "I loan(ed)J. R. my horse to go to Town to get his Licens(license)- 
in eve Barton & wife came-we all went to S.(?)T.s-he(his) daughter S. & J. R. 
was to be married.."
