KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 103 of 137) August 22 to September 1, 1856 The 22nd: "We went to Dr. Brantley's and Nathan Chaffin's 3 miles above there- came home-went to J. Bryans-work(ed?) my horse-came home- (? ? ?)well-sick-with a running off of the bowell". The 24th: "Disite(?-dysentery-?)-sick-Mr. & Mrs. 1 went off to her farther's-I was at home all day by self-in the eve they came home-we walked about a little at night-(?) (?) caught(?)". The 25th: "When I arrose Mr. 1 had ate breakfast and was gone to pl.-Mrs. 1 sent him to tell me to get up-with this word-if I wanted my breakfast I had better come and ate[eat]it-I went drank some coffee-it appears as if they was mad about some thing-I know [not?] what-but came to school-not well-at night nothing to say to me-he heardly spoke in morning". The 26th: "same way-he went off with old John B. to [Forsithe?]-when he started to store I said to him if he would wait one minute I would go with him-he said he was in a hurry-went out-I came on to store-there we had a few words-at night his wife was as befor-had nothing to say to me-John & Sally(Rutledge?)came all night". The 27th: "She was likewise-some rain and b.(?-before-?)day". The 28th: "He came home but nothing to say to me". The 29th: "Today is the day they was to meet to see about a school here next year-no one came-I went home-he still had but little to say to me". The 30th: "Went to J. B.s-I came to the store-went back-he had come & went to pl.-he came back about 10-in eve we went to store-to J. Childress-came home-he had but little to say to me-I bore all this with a great deal of trouble". The 31st: "in morning rain-all day the wind blew very hard-all day-sometimes he looked like he...".
