October 13 to November 1, 1856

The 13th: "They went to Bartons-I went to Zion-to J. Morgains with N.(?)M.(?)-
then home with E. B.-then home-F. Hester here all night".

The 14th: "He left with F. H. to go to town with J. B.".

The 16th: "5 (s)chollars-Dr. M. H. B. came-told us that Dr. J. H. B.s child was 
ded and beried-very dark-cloudy all day-[above line "cool"].

The 18th: "in eve M. H. B. & I. B. B. came all night".

The 19th: "In morning wrote two bits- [?-bills-?]of sail for M. H. B & Mr. 1-me 
& Mr. 1 then went to church-we came home-went to store".

The 20th: "I went to church-came home-then I took Dick & Clay by Bartons to I. 
H. Bryans all night(his wife sick-M. H. B. there & Brooks".

The 21st: "Went to Jonesburough-arrived 1/2 after 10 & left at 12-left them(?) 
there-me & Brooks came home by I. H. B.s-at home at 6 Ocl.".

The 22nd: "We went to Dr. Brantley's by J. J. T.[or F.?]-and back by Dr. 
Turners-in eve we went to S. Shoals".

The 23rd: "We went to town-I was caught on the jury-Cleavings case-Mr. 1 was 
there F. & Saturday-S.(?)we all went to the grave yard".

The 31st: "he was there & Friday-we have been confined 10 days & nights-12 of 
us-there was myself, 2 Robert Davis, 3 A. A. S. Aycock, 4 Wm. Hooten, 5 I. 
Craig, 6 Wm. Winfrey, 7 Nelson Rape, 8 J. Laney, 9 Benjamin Grant, 10 James 
Cook, 11 John Green-[and 12]- Abda White- by(?) boarded at A Slonn's(?)well 
treated-we have been so confined no one was allowed to speak to us without 
special business and then the balif or sherif was with us".

September 1st: "we came to a decision after being locked up all last night-and 
it was--
We the jury find A. Cleavlin Guilty of an(d) Assault-here is what he was 
charged with-With an assualt with inten(t) to committ a rape-came down 10 Ocl.-
we had just ate breakfast".
