KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 114 of 137) January 13-19, 1857 The 13th continued: "..he could buy this negro woman from him- [beneath line- "and she was cheap at nine hn.(?) Dol.s"]- that I was wanting to buy-I came home-I asked him again if he had told it to any person-he said no-I then told him what (what)Hamp said and told him I would be off-(in eve or at night)-in eve we went threw the woods to new ground-on our way we lay down and talked about many things-came home at night-I did not give him any satisfaction about our trade-so I will not start to Pa's tomorrow-[above line, something about J. D. & perhaps a horse trade?- "he swapt"] The 14th: "I went to S. T.s-he went to J.B.s-when I came home he was here". The 15th: "I went to S. T.s-came home-(in eve he went to J. B.s-came ho. said M. (?) H. B. had come". [first of two 15th day entries; should perhaps be the 14th instead] The 15th: "I stade here all day-in eve C. O.(?) & J. B. came-then Dr. M. H. B.- I went with him to Dr. Jas. H. B.(Bryans) all night-very cold". The 16th: "morning came back-very cold-Mr. 1 & H. in eve went to store-then to T. T.s-I went to store-rec'd(?) a letter from Wallnut Grove-came home". The 17th: "We went to meeting-We was taking about our negro trade & c.-and what C. said about him-came home-he talks(?) of sending off said negro-Dr. M. H. B. came-they are going [to] J. B.s-just before they started-I asked him which he had drother do-send her off or sell her to me-I [he?] said he wanted to sell her-he came home- W(e)traded-I recon we lay together". The 18th: "commensed snowing-he went to J. B.s for his family-snowing all day till 1 O clock-which is now-they came home-there is a snow storm today-the first I ever saw". The19th: "he gave me a bit of sale to a negro woman-9 hundred Dollars-then he left for to go to J. B.s to see M. H. B. start.."
