KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 124 of 137) April 18-24, 1857 The 18th continued: "..(On account of a sale at Old Man Harison's(?)-I got him to go with me to the sale-he went-we stade but a short time-(as Mr. 1 was there- I let him read the letter I got from D. L. C.(Coleman)-he never came to me-but I went to him and spoke to him-he was very short in his conversation-but all will be right)-came home with him-ate dinner-then I came down to the store & went to J. Chaffin's-then I went back to J. B.'s-all night-some rain at night- It Rained & Hailed and the wind blew all night-it was a washing rain-I never saw such (?) in my life-very cold-frost ev(e)ry week the wind blows-all the talk is small (? ? ?) [beneath line: "storm last night". The 19th: "Some rain so we did not expect any meet(ing)-but after a while it cleared away-but was so unfavorable Miss E. F. B. could not go to meet(ing)-so I proposed to her-I would go to meeting with Brooks-then I would come back and carry her to Mr. 1's-she concented-I came back in eve-I. H. B. & wife came but left soon-L. Smith came-L. Sh. H. Mo(gain) L. & E. Morgi(?-Morgan-?) came-then Mr. 1 sent for the old lady-all of our arrangments was done-so I left-came home to Worthville". The 20th: "me & A. H. Morgan went to see Dr. Hendrick(?) as he was very sick-in eve I carried T. J. Willson[or Williamson?] to Jackson- $2- came back to H.'s- all night with Dr. H.-came home in morning". The 22nd: "Bryans wants me to go to I.(Indian) spring tomorrow". The 23rd: "Rob* did not come soon so (so)I defeared it". The 24th: "I went to Indian Spring-10 Ocl. at I. S.-came to Edmon(d) McDanels (?)-ate din.-came on by widow Ander's store-Warm & pleasant to what it has been- R.(Rob?)told me B.(Bryans?)had got a cleark-This is my bearthday-24 years old- borned 1833-where was I in 56(?)-where will I be in 12 months more.." ____________________ * Rob evidently stabled James' horse and brought it to Worthville when he needed it. Rob may have worked for Dr. Bryans, but there was a "Roberts" place between Worthville & Dr. Bryans plantation.
