June 21-29, 1857

The 21st: "All night. Hinton went to his farthers-I came by Mr. 1's-stoped 
about 1 hour-went by my place to see little negro-then went to meeting-I heard 
that my gal was sick so I never saw her this morning-Mr. 1 told me he had took 
down a memoram(?)[memorandum] of what McMikle [McMichael]-had said about the 
seasons-he said a cold May for good wheat and sorry cotton-which is the case 
this year-he also said he had took down how corn and cotton is now-corn is from 
knee(?) to waist high-cotton from 4 to 6 inches-the latest spring I ever saw-I 
went to meeting McM. preached-a good ma(n)y out-communion -I came to my place 
ate dinner-me & Henry S.[Skinner]went to Odell Acdy. to[a] sing(ing) I came to 
Copeland's-stade a while-I was much botherd about my gal being sick-Mr. C. told 
me she would not want to see me and her sick-so I came to Dr. Bryans-he (t)old 
me he had a fite with T. Wallthall yestoday-all night-warm and loansome day to 
me".

The 22nd: "I left my horse(and took his-came to store-as he was not well-sent 
horse back by Dr. H.-as he wanted him to go & see some patience [patients]-I 
received a letter from Pa-all well-G. W.[Whitfield] gon to Alabama blew(?) Al
(?) & Mat Medders ded".

The 29th: "I went to carry my little negro some medison(?)-went to Mr. 1(after 
eating dinner at Copland's)-Hubert was there-in eve him and Mr. 1 went to E. J. 
Fargason's-I came with them to store-they went on-I went to my place-went back 
to store-went home with (with)Hub to his father's-all night".

The 28th: "went to Hamp's to Mr. 1's-to Sardice [Sardis]- after meeting we went 
to Dr. B.s
-So did T. H. B.-in the eve me & Hub(?) came to Buck Roberson's(he is clearking
 for Dr. B.)
