KNOWLES, 1852-1858(page 134 of 137) October 13-30, 1857 The 13th: "Me & G. D. W. went to Vienna-saw T. F. Clark of Butts [came back?]". The 14th: "Went to meet(ing) at night-some rain-school house". The 15th: "Me & John Hart went to E. Story's to get a book [came home]". The 16th: "Here all day-wrote some advertisements for a sale". The 17th: "We all went to meeting at primrose hill-Martha Lizey Lucy & myself- Powell preached then came home with us-went back to meeting at night-he went to Bryan's". The18th: "George John & Ma.(Martha?)-four [of us]-all went to meeting [came home]". The 19th: "I went to Isabella-came to Wm. P. [Posey's?] all night". The 20th: "I came home-then went to J. Odam's-ate dinner-came home". The 23rd: "Rain for the first time in 6 weeks to do any good". The 26th: "I arrose and went to Sam Story's and back before breakfast-then here came P. Key for a settlement with me-today is the day of the appraisment of my father's property- the appraisers came-after they was threw I went to William Posey & to W. R. Rains'(?)-came home-in (? ? ?) do(?) 3 dollars-came home mad (?) but had done the best I co(uld)- Tomorrow is the sail-but had (? ? ? ?)". The 27th: "The sale was threw by 1 Ocl.-nearly all bot. in by us-[draft? follows]". The 28th: "here till noon or till in eve-then me & George D. Whitfield came to Wess Moors-(on my way to Nashvill T.)-all night". The 29th: "came to Montzuma-at 3 I left for Macon-arrived M. at 6 Ocl. P.M.-all night at the Brown House". The 30th: "I went to the Botanic College-the first Colege I ever was in-at 3 P.M. I left for Nashville Tenn-at 7 P.M. to [at?] Atlanta-staid but a few minutes-left for Chattanooga-[small script above: "Oct. 31st 1858(7)"]- at 6 A.M. arrived-in 1/2 hour left for Nashville-arrived at 5-went to Citty Hotel".
