KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 135 of 137) November 1-22, 1857 The 1st: "..In Nashville Tenn. for the purpose of attending lectors-I came over to the Coledge and got board at the second house I went to-at $3.50 per week- about 2 hundred yards from Coledge at Mr. Driver's No. 158 Meeting Street-in eve I went to P. F. Eve-to Hotell and the Capatol-got a negro to bring trunk to Mr. Drivers-or the Capten we all called him". The 2nd: "I went to Coledge for the first time to [hear] lectors-at night I went to her a lector-saw an operat(ion)". The 3rd: "I went to Capatol to see the Governer take his seat-came back and went to Colledge". The 8th: "I went to the Hosepitle-the attendant made me mad-in the eve I went to the Colledge-Linsley lectored (on?) the Bible-(I will leave this for a program): [in large letters: "University of Nashville-Medical Department-Session 1857-- '58-Lecture Hours"] [Here, James inserted a grid schedule of his classes Monday through Saturday; with daily hours and professors noted. I will not try to duplicate that here.] [beneath schedule: "The above is our weeks work all threw(?) the course"] The 14th: "I went up in Town-(as we call it-but it is a city)-to market & to printing office-came back-cold". The 15th: "Went to church-came back-in eve went to the Colledge to Bible class- cold & raining-came back". The 21st: "Same this week-in eve I went to Colledge-then to the market-came back". The 22nd: "I Went to Baptice Church-in eve went to Colledge-in eve went to Oddfellow's Hall to here Mr. Fergason preach-cold but plesant-I will go as long as he [preaches?]."
