KNOWLES, 1852-1858 (page 137 of 137) January 1-30, 1858 [Page torn along upper left corner; image of page 135 visible diagonally in first six lines] The 1st: "..in(?) morning I redd some-went to Colledge-..I recc'd(?) a letter from Mr. 1(I have been much [missing]- (b)ecause he has not writen to me-he promise(d) to [missing] (to?) me-but did not ask me to write to him [missing] I (?) would not write to him first)-on my (way?) from going to see an ampitation [amputation] 1 mile (from) the city-A. by [Professor] Buchanan-rain-I commensed a letter to Mr. 1". The 2nd(or 3rd?): "I completted it-went to Methodice church in eve to here Fa (e?)rgason-warm for climate & season-looking for a letter from home". The 7th: "Rec'd a letter from Mr. J. L. Harris-he was clearking where I red medicine-much troubled about not geting a letter from home". The 10th: "I went to Meth. Ch. to her [hear]a funerel". The 11th: "Rec'd a letter from Preceptor(J. H. B)". [mentor, James H. Bryans- Butts Co.] The 14th: "Rec'd a letter from Sister E. F. S. Heart(Hart) & Neace(?) Lucy". The 16th: "in eve dicected [dissected?] some-warm-rain". The 17th: "I went to Methodise Church-came back-in eve went to see Kirby & Noblet". The 22nd: "Fire in the City-warm wether". The 23rd: "Rec'd(?) a l(e)tter from home-$60 inclosed-in eve I wrote a letter to [George] D. Whitfield-to office-to Col.[college]-dicecting-Old bunch came to colledge to dine(?)- Rain(?)". The 27th: "Lecturs was suspended for the day with a token [of] (res)pect to Mr. Ford-one of our classmates-at one Ocl. we was all assembled on Broad Street to march to Depot with Mr. Ford-there was three hundred and thirty five of us marched-a long row of us-went up in town & saw the large(st) B[bull?]-I ever before [saw?]-1800 lbs was said to be its weight". The 29th: "Some cooler-in eve I went to see Mr. Hill [another?] of our classmates who is sick with Tonci [tonsillitis?]- I have 1 sore eye". The 30th: "In eve I went again to see Mr. Hill-came.."
