It is believed to have been near the present group of trees, and former "homecoming" picnic-table area. It may be the building that immediately preceded the last wooden sanctuary, which was built in 1891, and razed in 1990. This building was probably used until the two-room school at Fincherville(Butts Co.)and the Pinehill school(Henry Co.)were opened. The latter was followed by the closer three-room school at Ellistown(that one was later converted into to a home). There were known schools at Sardis as early as 1850. In 1866, a church member W. H. Wilson was given permission to move the "school house" to the "old camp ground"(perhap, the first church site, nearer Worthville). In 1874, William Wynn was given permission to teach in the "church house", being liable for any damages. Very little is known about the people in this group. The teacher, Miss Mae Woodward is seated at the lower right. Four or five of the older girls along the top row are known(see "close-up" photo).
