C. Sloan, in the presence of friends and relatives of the bride. The contracting parties were Miss Laura Sloan of this city and Mr. J. E. Smith of Monticello, Fla., and the ceremony was performed by Rev. J. F. Pharr, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Smith is a prominent young lawyer and newspaper man of Monticello and Miss Laura is one of McDonough's most intelligent and charming young ladies, whom it is his good fortune to win for life's companionship. Many friends both here and at the home of the groom congratulated them on their happy and auspicious union, and THE WEEKLY joins in the numerous good wishes extended them. Mr. and Mrs. Smith will reside at the home of the groom in Florida, and after the ceremony boarded the 5 o'clock train for Monticello. Since the above was put in type, a guest funishes the following: Tuesday afternoon the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Sloan was the scene of a happy gathering of people to witness the marriage of their daughter, Laura Barry, to Mr. Joel E. Smith of Monticello, Fla. The reception room was elaborately decorated in golden rod and bamboo. In the center of the room, suspended from the ceiling, was a green and white hoop, from which hung a beautiful white heart pierced by Cupid's arrow. Under this the bride and groom were happily joined by Rev. Mr. Pharr, who performed the ceremony in a most impressive manner. The bride wore a traveling gown of green and tan, while the groom looked very handsome in a full dress suit. Mrs. Smith, nee Miss Sloan, was one of McDonough's sweetest young ladies noted for her winning ways. Her many friends here will regret very much to lose her, but congratulate Monticello upon her gain. Mr. Smith is one of Monticello's brilliant young lawyers, and the talented editor of the Monticello Constitution. After the ceremony the dining room doors were thrown open and the guests were invited in to an elegant luncheon. Here as in the reception room the prevailing colors were green and yellow, with choice cut flowers tastefully arranged on the table. The luncheon consisted of everything that would tempt the most delicate appetite. At five the bride and groom, accompanied by a few friends, left for the depot, where the happy couple departed for Monticello, their future home. We wish for them a happy and long life. A GUEST.
