Thomas Edward Langley while he was a Baptist minister in Georgia in 1859-1860. He became the minister of the Ft. Valley Baptist Church. He rented a house there from Col. W. J. Anderson and bought a horse for $200. from Mr. Henry Brown on January 1, 1859. Preaching to churches in the surrounding area he went by horse, horse and buggy, and the train. Fort Valley, Georgia Saturday, January 1st, 1859 I spent this day at the town of Fort Valley at the residence of Eld. W. A. Skellie. I spent part of the day about town with my Brethren. I came to the housese I had rented to see a horse owned by Mr. Henry Brown. I bought his horse agreeing to paylhtm $200.00 next Fall, Thus passed away the first day of the new year. [NOTE: W.A. Skellie and wife, Mary received by experience to Baptism 4-14-1853. W.A. "liberated to exercise his gift (of preaching) as he thought necessary 5-14-1853" Antioch Missionary Baptist Church minutes. Taylor County ] Sunday, 2nd At Fort Valley at the residence of Eld. W. A. Skellie. At 10 o'clock I went to the Baptist meeting house in company with my wife and Bro Skellie's family. I then tried to preach to an attentive audience followed by Bro Skellie. My wife and my-self then went home with Sister Powers to dinner. I preached to the colored people at 5 o'clock as usual and at night to the white congregation. Thus passed away the first Sabboth day of the New Year. Monday 3rd I spent this day in moving my furniture Etc. from the Depot at Fort Valley to the house I rented from Col. W. J. Anderson. I only got part of my goods moved on this day. I and my family spent the night at Bro Skellie's. Thus has another day passed away forever. Tuesday 4th At Fort Valley trying to fix up to keep house. We unboxed and arranged furniture-set up bed steads &c&c all day. My Father in Law and Mother in Law came to see us and we all took dinner at Bro Skellie's. After dinner Juddie and Willie went home with their Grand papa and Mama and remained until Saturday. We spent this night in our new house for the first night. Wednesday, 5th At home. All well! I spent this day in trying to get something to eat &c. Nothing occured on this day worthy of note except that we were all spared and taken care of by Him who roles all things after the counsel of his own will. May we ever give him the adoration of our hearts. Amen Amen Thursday, 6th At home all well. I spent this day in attending to business at home connected with house keeping. I remember nothing of special worth to note for this day. God has blessed us above what we have deserved. He has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded as according to our iniquities. Friday 7th At home-all well- I went to the Post Office after breakfast and there learned that a train would come out at 11 o'clock for Columbus. I then hastened home and made ready to go to REYNOLDS. I took the train at 11:30 o'clock for Reynolds and was soon at the place. I there met Mr. Marshall [T.J. Marshall ? - Asa's son ] who took me in his buggy to his Father's house [Asa Marshall] where I spent the afternoon and night. I found Sister Marshall very sick. Saturday 8th At the house of Bro Asa Marshall in Taylor County [Note: Reynolds]. After breakfast was over and meeting time came on we went to the meeting house and found very few out. We had short services (for the weather was very cold) and went to Bro Corbin's to dinner. After which I went home with Bro Carson and spent the night very pleasantly indeed. Sabboth 9th At the house of Bro. Carson in Macon County, I arose this morning from my sleeping bed feeling that God, in tender mercy, had kept me and after morning services and breakfast was over we went to the meeting house and had short services and took dinner at Bro Corbin's. I then went to Bro Marshall's again and found his wife speechless. At four o'clock I left for the Depot and took tea with Bro Ingraham. Sister Marshall died at 5 o'clock this afternoon. [note:Lucy McNeil wife died Jan 9, 1859] I took the cars and came home at 8 o'clock & found all well - Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Monday 10th At home - all well - Cold weather. I went to the Post Office after Breakfast. I spent the day at home in attending to my common course of business. After tea at night I went to Macon at attend to some business there. Spent the night at Brown's Hotel. Tuesday, llth day At Macon - I arose from my bed at Brown's Hotel and proceeded to attend to my business. I bought a coal - oil - lamp - 1/2 dozen chairs and washstand & c. Tuesday - llth day I came to the Depot at 1O o'clock and took the train for Fort Valley in company with James and Fanny Jenkins. (NOTE: Lavinia Langley's sister) I arrived at home safely and found all well. I spent the afternoon at home with my family. Thus far the Lord has led me on by his goodness and mercy. Wednesday 12th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home in attending to my usual course of business. Nothing new occured that I remember. Thursday, l3th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home as usual in attending to my accustomed business. I fell under renewed obligation to praise God for his great mercy and goodness to me and my family. "Bless the Lord 0 my soul.. Friday l4th day At home - all well - I spent this day in trying to prepare to preach to my congregation at this place. 0 that God would grant us his spirit at all times to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ to perishing sinners. "Bless the Lord 0 my soul and forget not all his benefits". Amen & Amen Saturday 15th day At home- all well - After the usual business of the morning has been dispensed with, we went to the Baptist Meeting house, where the people of God were accustomed to meet for his service, and tried to preach to a large and attentive audience. In the afternoon I attended to my usual business. Sabbath, l6th day At home - all well - After morning exercises & c were passed, I went with my family to the Baptist Meeting house where I tried to preach to an interesting congregation and in the afternoon I preached to the colored people. Then at night I preached also to the white congregation again. May the Lord sanctify his truth to the hearts of the people and save them with an everlasting salvation. Thus passed away another glorious Sabbath day, Monday 17th At home - all well - I spent this day at home in attending to my accustomed business. The goodness of God is manifest all around us. 0 May it lead us to that "repentance which needeth not to be repented of" and to life everlasting. Amen Amen Tuesday, l8th day At home - all well - This day I spent at home in reading and study. Nothing of special interest occurs today. 0 may I so number my days that I may apply my heart unto wisdom. Wednesday, 19th day At home - all well - I spent this also with my family at home in attending to my accustomed business. May the Lord give me grace to live as I ought at all times, that my "light may so shine that others seeing my good works may glorify my Father who is in heaven." Thursday, 20th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home as usual in attending to my regular train of duties. May the Lord have all the praise of my salvation forever and ever. Amen Friday, 21st day At home - all well - I spent this day in preparing to preach to my congregation at Knoxville. May the Lord sanctify his truth to their hearts that they may be wise unto salvation. 0 Lord revive us at that place this year. May thy name have all the praise. Amen Saturday, 22nd day January 1859 I arose this morning and after the usual morning services were over I set out for Knoxville. The weather was extremely cold yet we reached the place in due season and tried to preach to a small congregation. I then went home with Bro Ellis and spent the afternoon and night. [Note J.W. Ellis] Sabbath, 23rd day At Knoxville, Ga. I went in company with Bro Ellis to the Baptist Meeting house where a few of us assembled for divine service. I tried to preach to them the unsearchable riches of Christ. I then took dinner at Bro Ellis and then set out for home. The weather was exceeding cold. I arrived at home safely and found all well. Monday, 24th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home with my family in reading and study. Surely the goodness of the Lord will follow me all the days of ay life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever". May My days all be devoted to his service. Amen Amen Tuesday, 25th day At home - all well - I went this day to Perry to attend to some business, but failed. I came hone in the afternoon very cold. I bought a hog from Mr. McKay of this place at .08 cts pr. lb. I came home then and spent the evening pleasantly with my family. Thank the Lord for his goodness & mercy. Wednesday, 26th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home in the prosecution of my usual studies, I remember nothing of special note for today. The Lord be praised for his goodness & mercy. Amen Thursday, 27th day At home - all well - I spent this day also at home in my usual business. "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want'he maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth beside the still waters". Amen Friday, 28th day At home - all well - I spent this day also at me usual business. All things seem to move on in their usual way about our little town. May the Lord save us from our sins. Amen Saturday, 29th day AT home - all well - I spent this day at home likewise in attending to my usual business. 0 Lord revive thy cause in this part of thy vineyard, that thy people may rejoice in thee. Sabbath, 3Oth day I spent this day at home with my family, without preaching, for the first, time in years. At night I went to the Methodist meeting house and heard Mr. Clouts preach. May the Lord forgive all their errors, & may they soon be converted to the truth. Amen Amen Monday,31st day At home - all well - I spent this day at home in attending to my usual business. "Bless the Lord 0 my soul & forget not all his benefits'. FEBRUARY Tuesday, 1st day I spent this day at home in doing some writing of special importance. The day passed off pleasantly indeed. I thank God for his abundant mercy and goodness to me. May I live to his praise and honor always. Amen & Amen Wednesday,.2nd day I spent this day at home also, as the weather was very bad. I read Crawford's "Christian Paradoxes" with a great deal of pleasure and I trust profit. May the Lord bless that book to the conversion of Many who are now bound by the errors of Pedoism. Thursday, 3rd day I arose this morning from my bed of slumber with the intention of going to the City of Macon. After breakfast was over, Judson [eldest son] & I set out for the Depot and soon after our arrival, we took the train for Macon. It was not long before we were safely housed in Brown's Hotel. We then went up town & bought various articles, such as we needed. We took a short dinner and oyster supper at Henry Horne's. We spent the whole day in Macon until midnight, then took the train & came home safe & sound & found all well. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Friday, 4th day At home - all well - Nothing new. After Breakfast I went down to the Depot and there found Bro Haggood, the Ag't of the B. B. & C. Society at Macon, who came home with me and we spent the day pleasantly together. He came home with me at night also Saturday, 5th day At home all well - I spent this day at home in visiting with Bro Haggood in order to sell books &c. Bro. Haggood is a sociable, good natured man, who, I think, intends to do right. He sold quite a number of good books and received some money by way of donations. May the Lord bless his labors abundantly. I came home in the evening to my family and found all right. May the Lord have all the praise. Amen Sabbath, 6th day At home - I arose from my bed feeling very badly on account of my cold. After the time of day came to go to the house of God, my wife and I went and heard Bro. Haggood preach a good sermon. We then came home and I took the "Sick - head -ache" and went to bed and suffered much all the afternoon and night. Bro Haggood filled my appointment at 5 o'clock and at night. May the Lord bless his efforts to the salvation of souls. Amen & Amen Monday, 7th day At home - all well except colds. I spent the forenoon of this day in attending to my usual domestic affairs. In the afternoon Mr. Clouts, came over to see me when we had quite a discussion on the Doctrine of Election. Thus passed this day. Tuesday, 8th day At home - All Well - I spent this day as follows. I first went to the Post Office and received my mail and brought it home. I then went back to see the military company carry the corpse of Dr. Pierce to the R. Road. There I met Bro. Wheat and brought him home with me and we spent the afternoon pleasantly together in talking about the Revision of the Bible. It rained at night and we had no prayer meeting. May the Lord save us from all our sins and fit us for heaven. Amen Wednesday, 9th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home with Bro. Wheat. He wrote for me the Hebrew Alphabet and gave me the vowels and the sound of each, for which I felt very thankful indeed. At night he lectured at the Baptist meeting house in this place with much ability though with considerable embarrassment on account of a cold. May the Lord God Almighty bless his efforts to advance the truth. Thus nassed anothe day. Bro. Wheat spent the night with me again. May the time soon come when we shall soon have a correct version of the Scriptures. Amen Thursday, 10th day At home - All well - I spent this day as follows. I first went to the Depot with Bro. Wheat in order to take the cars. He took the train for Columbus. I then came home, took dinner and then spent most of the afternoon in writing letters. I then went to the office and mailed my letters and then came home and found all well. May the Lord save us by his grace and deliver us from our sins, and to his name be all the praise. Amen & Amen Friday, llth day At home - all well - I spent this day as follows. I first went to the Post Office and while down town bought a shad at 55cts. I came home and entered upon my studies I read part of the 4th chap. of Eph. in Greek and then prepared a sermon from it. I spent the afternoon in preparing a sermon from Heb. 2nd & 5rd. I then ? the whole of Heb. and about half of the Index of this week. Thus another day has forever fled. May the Lord sanctify what I have learned today to my soul's eternal good. And to his name be all the praise. Amen Saturday, 12th,day I arose this morning in haste to get ready to take the freight train to Reynolds. I went to the Depot and found Bro. Haggood and Powers ready to go with me. We set out and were soon at the place. Then Bro Haggood and I set out in Bro. Ingram's buggy for Union meeting house. We found a few of the brethren and sisters and Bro. Haggood talked to them a little while and we went to Bro. Corbin's and took dinner and spent the afternoon and night very pleasantly with his family. Sabbath, l3th day In Macon Co. at Bro Corbin's. At the appointed hour Bro Haggood and I went to the meeting house and Bro Haggood preached to a large and attentive audience. We then took dinner with Bro Corbin and afterwards went up to Reynolds and took tea with Bro Ingram. We then went to a school house close by and Bro. Haggood preached again and I closed. He then distributed tracts to all who would accept. We spent the night pleasantly at Bro Ingram's. Bless the Lord oh my soul. Amen & Amen Monday, l4th day I took the cars at Reynolds this morning at 7 o'clock in company with Bro. Haggood and came over to Ft. Valley. I spent the day in attending to domestic matters and reading my papers, The Telegraph and Educational Journal. Tuesday 15th day At home. All well except colds. I went this morning first to the Depot and got my mail. I then came home and read my paper received withsome pleasure. In the afternoon I read some in Baxter's "Reformed Pastor". I then attended to the burial services of Bro Thomas's infant child. May the Lord grant him grace to bear up under all his afflictions. Thus has passed another day into eternity. Lord pardon all our sins. Wednesday, l6th At home - all well - weather warm and wet - I spent this as follows - First I went to the office and got my mail. I then came home and assisted my wife in putting a carpet upon our parlor floor. I examined the Scriptures on the subject of Prayer. I went to the P. Office in the afternoon to mail a letter, came home and all was right. A Rail-Road meeting was held today in Perry to see about building a R. Road from here to Brunswick. A good undertaking I think. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen & Amen Thursday, 17th day At home - All well - Weather warm and cloudy. I spent this day at home. First, I went to the P. Office to get my mail. I got the "Telegraph" and a letter from A. L. Moncrief. I then came home and read my paper and "Baxter's"Reformed pastor" until noon. In the afternoon I visited Parson Clouts, the Methodist preacher on this circuit, when he and I had quite a discussion of doctrines and practices. May God enlighten his mind by his spirit so that he may learn and obey the truth. I came home and planted a patch of Irish potatoes. Thus passed another day. May God pardon all our sins and save us by hie grace. Amen & Amen Friday, l8th day At home - all well - weather very warm for the season. I spent this day as follows. I went to the Office to get my mail. I received a letter from Bro R. T. Asbury of Forsyth and one from Bro D. H. Moore of Barnesville and also the Index. I spent the forenoon in reading and study,preparing sermons to preach tomorrow and next day. In the afternoon my Father in Law [Norwood] came to bring Fanny [Norwood] Jenkins. I went down town with him and mailed 5 letters, one to R. T. Asbury, one to D. H. Moore, one to A. L. Moncrief and afterwards sent one for W. B. Stephens. Thus passed off the labors and business of this day. Thanks be to God for his grace and mercy. Amen Saturday, 19th day At home - all well - weather warm and fair. I went to the P. Office early this morning and after coming home I made preparation to go to church. At Eleven o'clock I went to the meeting house and found quite a number of Brethren and Sisters waiting to hear the word. I tried to preach to them on the subject of "Prayer". When conference was open my wife and I put in our letters. We ajourned and Bro. and Siste Grey came home with us to dine. In the afternoon Bro Grey and I went down town and spent an hour or two and I received a note from Rillen and Moore from Auston. Thus passed another day. May the Lord Bless our meeting together this day. Amen & Amen Sabbath, 20th day At home - all well - Weather warm and rainy - I arose to see the light of another sabbath day surrounded with the goodness and mercy of God. At 9:30 o'clock I visited the Sabbath school. At 11 o'clock I tried to preach upon the subject of the "Resurrection". At 5 o'clock P. M. I preached to the colored people. At, night I preached again upon the "Good Old Way". May the Lord sanctify his truth to the hearts of all who heard . Amen & Amen Monday, 2lst day At home - all well - weather clear and cool - I went this morning to the P. Office and took out the "Georgia Educational Journal" filled as usual with interesting matter I came home saddled my horse and went to see old Bro Hunter who is sick but better. I then went to the Depot at ll:30 o'clock to meet Bro J. L. Warren. I talked with him a few minutes and came home to dinner. In the afternoon I went down town and spent some time with my Brethren. May He': forgive all my sins and save me by his grace. Tuesday, 22nd, day At home - all well - weather pleasant. I sent to the Post Office and received a letter from Dr. Stephens of Forsyth. In the forenoon of this day my wife and I went to see old Sister Young. As we came home I stopped in town and met Bro. Hanady, Bro Landrum and Bro. A. T. Holmes. I spent some time in conversation with Bro Landrum. I came home to dinner and went back to town after writing a letter Dr. Stephens in which I sent him $15.00 in payment of his a/c against L. D. Norwood. I spent a few moments in conversation with Bro Holmes and thus went with Bro. Hanady to Bro Brown's and spent the remainder of the afternoon. 0 God forgive us our sins. Amen Amen Wednesday, 23rd day At home - all well;- weather warm and wet - I spent this at home reading Baxter's "Reformed Paster". It is surely a good book, one which every Pastor should read. 0 may its good lessons never be forgotten by mel May I be more faithful than I have ever been. Amen Amen Thursday, 24th day At home - all well - weather pleasant - I sent to the P. Office and got the Index & Telegraph. I then saddled my horse and went to old Bro Hunter's and found him better than when I saw him last. May the Lord Bless him with an abundance of grace! I then.went to old Bro. Holley's and spent an hour with his family. I came home to dinner and then went with my wife to Bro R. T. Byrd's. I then went to see Mrs Schnider who has been rec'd for Baptism. I then went to town and then to Bro. Waldon's and Bro N. A. Hanady (?) came home with me and took tea. Mr. and Mrs. Murray spent the night with us. May the Lord give grace to.-'live as we ought and may his name have all the praise! Amen & Amen Friday, 25th day At home - all well - weather very warm for the season - I went first this morning to the P. Office and rec'd a letter from Sister Occie & the "Georgia Ed. Journal". I came home and spent the forenoon in preparing a sermon on the Doctrine of Justification. In the afternoon I read the Bible in a Sam & 1 Kings. How beautiful and interesting the description of Solomon's Temple"! I then wrote a letter to Occie and went to the office and mailed it. I came home and spent the balance of the evening in reading the Tenn Baptist. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen & Amen Saturday, 26th day At home - all well - weather very wet - raining all day - I arose this morning and made preparation to go to Knoxville but it continue! to rain so much that I could not go. In the forenoon I finished reading the "Reformed Pastor". In the afternoon I read part of 1st Kings and all of 2nd Kings. I took no exercise this day at all being kept in the house by the rain. Oh God forgive my unfaithfulness and help me to discharge my duty in all things. May thy great and good name have all the praise forever. Amen Sabbath, 27th day At home - all well - weather still wet - I intended this morning to go to Knoxville but the state of the weather would not admit of it. So I spent the day at home in reading the Bible and conversation. Bro Thomas came in and spent and hour with me in the forenoon and Bro Skellie spent part of the afternoon with me. I read during t day most of 1st Chron. At night I preached at the Baptist meeting house to a small congregation. Thus passed another Sabbath day. May the Lord sanctify it to our goo and his glory. Amen Monday, 28th day At home -- all well--weather wet. I first went to the P. Office this morning and received a letter from Prof. R. T. Asbury. I came home and read 20 chapters in 1st Chron. before dinner and in the afternoon (feeling unwell) I took a nap of sleep and then arose and read the balance of the 2nd Book of Chron. We expected Bro A. T. Holmes of Atlanta to preach in this place to night, but the constant raining has no doubt kept him away. Thus passed away the last day of Feb. The rain has been constant almost all day and still falls tonight. 0 Blessed God forgive us our sins & cleanse our hearts from all sin. Amen & Amen MARCH Tuesday 1st day At home - all well - except Willie who complains of his Bowels - I went to the p. Office and rec's the Tenn. Baptist. I oeme home and read some in it and just before Dinner I wrote a letter to Ross & Co. of Macon for some bacon. In the afternoon my wife & myself & child went to Mr. L. D. Norwood's and spent the evening and night very pleasantly with his family. Thus passed the first day of March. "Bless the Lord my soul". Wednesday, 2nd day At the residence of L. D. Norwood. (Note: Lavinia's parents) Having spent the night with him and having arisen and taken breakfast, he and I set out for Perry to which we safely arrived and attended successfully to all the business desired. We then returned home to his house and spent half an hour in masticating and disposing of the "Good things" found upon his table. I spent the afternoon and chewing sugar cane and reading Cole's Book on the Philosophy of Health . Thus passed away the second day of March. May the Lord have al the praise of our salvation forever more. Amen & Amen P. S. I spent an hour pleasantly with Charles Goode, Esqr. of Perry, Ga. May the Lord Bless him and save him. Amen Thursday, 3rd day At home - all well - Weather wet in the forenoon but clear and pleasant in the afternoon. I came this morning from the residence of L. D. Norwood. I arrived at home safely and found all well. I received four letters today one from Penfield,[Note: A Baptist School] one from Colaparabee(?), one from Macon. I wrote this afternoon to Prof. R. T. Asbury and Eld. A. L. Moncrief. I went to the P. Office and mailed the Letters. I then came home. The Lord has blessed us with many great Blessings. May we give to him the glor due to his Great Name. Amen & Amen Friday, 4th day At home - all well - Weather clear and cool. I went this morning to the P. Office and received the Ed. Journal and the "Telegraph" and "Child's Book" for Judson. I spent an hour in town in converstion with Brethren and friends on different subjects of gene interest. I came home and studied the subject of Christian home. In the afternoon I felt very unwell for awhile and lay down. Afterwards I wrote two letters One to A. W. Marshall at Penfield. One to W. H. Norwood at Bainbridge and mailed them. Bless the Lord. Amen Saturday, 5th day At home - all well - weather clear and pleasant. I went this morning to the P. Office and then to Bro Avera'a Store. I then came home and prepared a sermon upon Christian Hope & At 11 o'clock I went to the Methodist meeting house and Mr. J. E. Evens preach. In the afternoon I went down town and rec'd a box of books from Bro Boykin of Macon. I met Bro. Bunn (or Runn) of Haynesville who came up and took tea with me. I then went to the Depot with him to meet his daughter and then we parted and I came home. Thus passed another day. Sabbath, 6th day At home - all well - weather wet. The rain was so constant during the forenoon that we could have no services at church at all, I spent the day in reading the Bible from Esther to the 6th chap. of Proverbs. In the afternoon Bro Thomas came and spent part of the afternoon with me. At night I went to the Baptist meeting house and preached upon the "Christian Hope" to a small congregation. May God sanctify his truth to the hearts of all who heard and save them with an everlasting salvation. Aaen & Amen Monday, 7th day At home - all well - Weather cloudy and warm. I went to the P. Office after breakfast adn then came home and spent the day at home in attending to my accustomed business. Bless the Lord for his goodness and tender mercies. Tuesday, 8th day This morning I arose and after making due preparation. My wife and I took the cars for Forsyth where we arrived at 11:30 o'clock safely and found Mother and all the rest well. In the afternoon I went up town and spent an hour in conversation with D. Sanford (or Lauford) and Dr. Stephens. After tea Bro R. T. Asbury and wife came up and spent the evening with us. Wednesday, 9th day At the house of my Mother in Forsyth. All well. I spent this day in arranging the balance sheet for Mother's return as guardian for Ryland and Octavia. In the afternoon late, I went to the college and witnessed the closing exercises of the school. How good is the Lord our God to us daily in showering his blessings down upon us! Bless his name 0 My soul Amen & Amen Thursday, 10th day At the residence of my mother in Forsyth - all well - In the forenoon I went up town to see if any of the Brethren of the "Executive Committee" had come but found none. My wife and I thus went to Prof Asbury's and after spending an hour with his wife I went to the Depot and Met Brethren Tharpe, Felden, Laudrum, Powell and Wilkes. Bro. Felden went with me to Mother's and took dinner. We then met at the Baptist meeting house to determine whether we should dissolve our connection with the Foreign and Dometic Mission Boards. We decided to separate at our next Association. We then ajourned to meet at the College. After tea for Prayer. Brethren Tharpe, King, Weaver and Power went with me to Mother's to supper. We then went to the college and spent an hour or two in prayer for our missionaries. We then ajourned and Brethren Tharpe, and King went with to Moth er's and spent the night. Amen & Amen Friday, llth day I arose this morning at 4 o'clock and after taking a cup of coffee, I set out for the Depot in company with My wife, Bro King and Bro Tharpe. We took the cars for Macon a soon arrived safely and then my wife and I took the train for Fort Valley and reached home safely and found all well. I was sent for immediately to visit Bro Powers little daughter who was very sick with Scarlet Fever. I went to see her before and after dinner and at 3 o'clock she died. I then came home and read the Index the balance of the evening. Saturday, 12th day At home all well - I went to the Post Office to mail a letter by the Freight train to Reynolds informing my Brethren that I could not meet them on account of the death of Bro Power's little daughter. I prepared to Breach her Funeral. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon we met at the Baptist Meeting House with the corpse and a crowded house of weeping friends and tried to preach the Funeral sermon. We then went to the grave and buried her remains in the earth. May the Lord give them grace to bear it. Amen & Amer Sabbath 13th day I arose at 10 o'clock this morning and took the cars for Reynolds and having arrrived there safely I went to the residence of Bro B. Ingram and spent the remainder of the night. At the appointed time we went to the meeting house, union. I preached the Funeral sermon of Sister Marshall to a large and attentive audience. After which the church communed. The meeting was indeed pleasant. May the Lord bless it to the salvation of souls. I then took dinner with Bro. Marshall and afterwards went to Bro. Ingram' s and took tea and at 7 o'clock p.m. I took the train and came home finding all well. Bless the Lord 0 My soul! Amen & Amen Monday, l4th day At home - all well - weather wet. I went this morning to the P. Office and then to Bro. Powers to see his sick children. I found then doing well I read a chapter and prayed with them and sang two of the "Songs of Zion". And in the afternoon I wrote a letter to J. Y. Jarrett and went to the P. Office and mailed it. I then came home and read some in "The Better Land". Thank the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen & Amen Tuesday, 15th day At home - all well - weather pleasant - I visited the sick at Bro Power's. & visited several other families in the forenoon. Tried to urge upon them the necessity of working in the cause of God. I also visited several families in the afternoon and found some of them anxious to have a meeting. 1'hus the day was spent. 0 may God pour out his spirit upon us that we may be revived and that sinners may be converted unto Him! Amen & Amen Wednesday, l6th day At home - All well- I went this morning to see Bro Powers' family and then attended the meeting of the Rail - Road convention, the object of which was to raise money to buili a R. Road from Fort Valley to Brunswick. In the afternooon I withessed the performance of the military company. I also went to Bro Powers' to see his sick children. Miss India Powers' suggested that the young Ladies form a Tract Society and I promised to assist her in getting up one. May the Lord help by his spirit to every good word and work. Amen & Amen Thursday, 17th day At home - all well - I spent this day in visiting the families of my congregation. I found considerable interest on the part of many of the members of the church. May the Lord pour out his spirit upon us. Amen & Amen Friday, l8th day At home - all well - weather fine. I spent this day at home trying to prepare for the meeting at night. Nothing of special note transpired during this day. We had at nigh an interesting meeting. Saturday, 19th day At home - all well - weather fine - I spent this day first in preparing to preach at 11 o'clock. We met at the church & I preached to them about the"Christian Armor" Bro. Campbell came on the 11:30 o'clock train. When meeting closed Bro. Campbell came home with me and spent the afternoon and night. At night Bro Campbell to a large and attentive audience. The state of feeling was good. The members of the church all came up and prayed together. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen & Amen Sabbath, 20th day At home - all well - At 9 o'clock we met at Mim's Mill Pond for Baptism. At which time I baptised Mrs. Schneider. At 11 O'clock we met at the meeting house and Bro Campbell preached a'fine sermon upon "Faith, Hope & Charity". At 3 o'clock I preached to the colored people I trust with good effect. At night Bro Walker , Editor of the Index preached to us a fine sermon upon the Text - "Ephraim is a cake not turned. Bro. Campbell closed with good effect. Monday, 21st day At home - all well - At 5 o'clock in the afternoon we met for prayer meeting at the meeting house. Had a good meeting. The forenoon of the day was spent in visiting those who are interested in the meeting. At night Bro. Campbell preached a fine ser-mon to young men. Many came up for prayer andseemed to feel greatly. May God con-vert them all by his spirit. Bro Campbell came home with me and spent the night very pleasantly indeed with us. May the Lord abundantly bless his labors. Amen & Amen Tuesday, 22nd day At home = all well - weather fine. At 8 o'clock we went to prayer meeting when Bro. Campbell opened the meeting and I closed. There seemed to be good state of feeling through out the congregation. May the Lord in Mercy save those who are seeking his favor. I spent part of the day in visiting those who seem to be interested. At night Bro. Campbell preached upon the "Final perservence of Saints" with much effect. Many came up for prayer and after wards we opened the doors and received 5 by experience and two by letter. May the good Lord carry on his good work until many shall be saved Wednesday, 23rd day At home - all well - Weather fine. At 8 o'clock we met for prayer when Bro. Campbell opened the meeting and I closed the state of feeling we very good. At 11 o'clock Bro. Campbell andl went to Bro Powers and took dinner. At night we met at church and Bro Campbell preached upon heaven. Many came up for prayer again. Bless the good Lord for this work of grace in our midst. May many be saved indeed. Amen & Amen Thursday, 24th day At home - all well - weather fine. This morning Bro Campbell left for home, having been sent for to preach the Funeral of L. T. Doyal's wife of Griffin. We met at 8 o'clock for prayer and had a good meeting. At night we met again and I tried to preach upon the text" If I perish, I perish". l6 came up for prayer and some seemed to be much effected. We opened the door and received 5 by experience. May the good carry on his good work as seemeth good in his own eyes. Amen Friday, 25th day At home - all well - I spent this day in visiting and preparing for our meeting. Our prayer meeting at 8 o'clock was interesting. At night Bro,Skellie preached. The interest of the meeting was still good. May the Lord add unto us daily the saved. Amen Saturday, 26th day At home - all well - At 8 o'clock we had a good prayer.meeting. In the afternoon Bro B. F. Tharpe of Perry came to help me. At night I preached to a good congregation. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen & Amen Sabbath, .27th day At home - all well - At 9 o'clock we met at Mims' Mill for Baptism . I baptised 6 willing candidates with Christ by faith. After Baptism we"returned to church and Bro Tharpe preached a most excellent sermon on the "Resurrection of Christ". At night we met again and had a good meeting. May seemed to feel that the Lord is good and grace Bless his holy name. Monday, 28th day At home - all well - I spent this day in visiting &c with Bro Tharpe. At 8 o'clock we had an interesting prayer meeting and at night Bro. Tharpe preached us a good sermon. The interest of our meeting is still good. May the Lord pour out his spirit move abundantly upon us. Amen Tuesday, 29th day At home - all well - I spent this day likewise in looking after those who seemed to be interested in their soul's salvation. At 8 o'clock we had a good meeting and at night Bro. Tharpe again preached us a good sermon. Bless the Lord for the good work done in our midst. May his name have all the praise! Amen forever. Wednesday, 3Oth day At home - all well - This day was spent first at 8 o'clock, at the Prayer meeting, when Bro. Tharpe read a part of the Book of Malachi and gave us a good comment upon itn all our hearts were melted together in love. In the afternoon Bro. Tharpe went hone. Bro. Campbell came to-day and at night preached a fine sermon while I went to marry Bro. Robert Lemens (Leseur?) and Miss Emmaa Happy (Slappy?) The meeting was interesting. May the good Lord bless us with "all spiritualties sings in heavenly places in Christ. Thursday, 31st day ° At home - all well - This day was spent like unto yesterday. We had a good meeting at o'clock and at night Bro Campbell again preached a good sermon. The doors of the church were opened and two were received. Amen APRIL •Friday, 1st day At home - all well - I spent this day in visiting around town. After prayer meeting at 8 o'clock when Bro. Campbell took the train for Americus at 9:30 o'clock. Amen Saturday, 2nd day At home - all well - During this day, I went to the prayer meeting at 8 o'clock when we had a good time. Bro, Powell spent the night with me . Ko meeting on account of rain. Monday, 4th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home - Our revival closed on yesterday. I baptised 12 during the meeting. I spent part of this day in writing and part in writing and part in reading. Surely God is good to me 0 My soul! In the afternoon I read and studied the deaconship again. I find that the office of a Deacon is one of some great importance. I went down town late in the evening to mail some letters. Accordingly, I took the train at the appointed hour for Reynolds.I arrrived there safely and found Bro Warren Wells waiting to convey me to his Father's house.We set out and at about 2 o'clock F. M. we arrived safely and partook of the good dinner which was prepared for us. At night I tried to preach at "Pleasant Grove" mee-t house. After which I came home with Bro Wells and spent the night. Monday, llth day At home all well - I went to the P. Office after breakfast and then I saddled my horse went to Bro. Raiford's and spent on hour with his family. Came home and lay up all the evening with Sick headache and suffered much. Tuesday, 12th day At home - all well - I went to the Post Office after eating my breakfast and shaving-got my mail and spent a while in town talking with different Brethren on subjects of general interest. Came home and spent the afternoon in reading and writing. At night a very interesting meeting. Came home and found J. M. Jenkins and his mother at my house. Wednesday, l3th day All well - I saddled my horse after eating breakfast, and set out for the residence of Bro. Gray on a fishing expedition. We soon reached the pond and were fishing. I caught 3 and he 1. The day was spent pleasantly indeed. I came home and had a fine mess of fish for supper. May the Lord forgive all our sins and save us for his name's sake. I then went to the meeting house where I met a number of Brethren and Sisters and friends wanting to hear preaching. I tried to to them and after this the church received one young Lady into the fellowship of the church. At night we met and I again preached and Bro. Owen came in. After meeting I went with Bro Owen to Bro. McAfee's and spent the night. Bless the Lord for his goodness. Amen Sabbath, 17th day At Knoxville - I arose from my sleeping bed this morning in good health. And after eating a hearty breakfast Bro. Owen and I went to Bro Ellis to get some clothes to baptize in. We then went to the water when I bantized two candidates. At 11 o'clock We met at the church and I preached to a large and attentive congregationi At night I preached again to a full house of very orderly nersons. I then spent the night with Bro. Ellis. Walker, Editor of Index. Saw Bro. Landrum marry a couple at Bap. Meeting house at 8 o' clock P. M. Came home at midnight. Wednesday, 20th day At home - all well - I went to the Post Office - then I rode out to Bro. Gray's and spent the day fishing and caught but one trout. Came home and found all well. May the Lord bless him Amen. Friday, 22nd day At Columbus, Ga. at the house of Maj. Moffett. I went with many others to hear Bro. C. D. Mallory preach the Introductory sermon. He preached to us a most excellent sermon from the text "Little Children, Keep your selves from Idols, Amen". In the afternoon the convention met. P.M.- .Mill, President, J. F. Dagg,Clk. C. H. Irwin, Ass't Clk. The usual business was done that evening .At night Bro. Williams of Penfield preached a capital sermon. Saturday, 23rd day At Columbus, Ga. Having spent a pleasant night in sleep, I arose to attend to the business of the day. I attended the convention until noon when I went to the Perry house with Bro. Corley and took a nice dinner of River fish. I attended the meeting oT the convention in the afternoon and at night I heard Bro A. T. Spalding preach. Thus passed another week into eternity with all its solemn'realities. May God in Mercy give us his grace to save us from sin to prepare us to live and die in his service. Amen& Amen APRIL Sabbath,24th day At Columbus, Ga. I awoke this morning finding myself at the residence of Maj. Moffett of Columbus, Ga. After morning prayers and Breakfast had past I went to the Baptist meeting house and found it crowded to overflowing. I, however, succeeded in getting a seat and heard Bro. Ryerson of Augusta, Ga. preach a most excellent sermon on Ministerial Education. His eloquence is inimitable. His thought good and his manner attractive. I went to the residence of Mr. Parr in Summerville, Ala. to dinner in company with his son, James, who was once my schoolmate. In the afternoon I heard a part of a sermon from J.L.Warren and part of one from A. T. Holmes. At night I attended the meeting of the Georgia Baptist Bible and Colporteur Society at the Baptist meeting house. A number of speeches were made and about S^O.OO collected for the society. May the Lord bless and prosper that organization for the promotion of his cause in this and other lands. Amen & Amen Monday, 25th day At Columbus, Ga. I went this morning to the meeting of the convention and enjoyed the exercises very much indeed. I ate dinner at Maj Moffetts and bade the family farewell and took the train at 3 3/4 o'clock P. M. for Fort Valley suffering much with sick head ache. I reached home safely at 7:30 o'clock and found all my family well. Bless the Lord for his goodness and tender mercies. Amen & Amen Turesday, 26th day At home - all well - I went at 8 o'clock to meet the train from Columbus and found many Brethren on their way home. I then came home and spent the day at my house with my family until night when I went to the prayer meeting where Bro. Webb conducted the exercises very well indeed. Wednesday, 27th day At home - all well - I went to the office and took out the Index &c. Spent a few minutes at Bro. Power's and was at the train when Sister R.T.Byrd took her leave of our town for Americus. In the afternoon Bro Thomas and I went to see Bro. Hunter and wife who are both sick. We prayed with them &c. I trust much to their comfort. The Lord bless them. Amen Thursday, 28th day At home - all well - I went in the morning of this day to the P. Office and took out my mail. Came home -and found Bro Martin of Brunswick at my house. He is out trying to raise money to pay for the Baptist meeting house at Brunswick. He took dinner with me and then left. I spent the afternoon in reading and study until nearly night when I went to town to see about paying ray taxes. Bless the Lord for the mercies and blessings of this day. Amen Friday, 29th day At home - all well - I went to my studies immediately after Breakfast. I spent the whole of the forenoon in trying to prepare for preaching on the coming sabbath. At noon J. M. Jenkins came and dined with us and spent the afternoon and night. The weather was cool and cloudy and occasionally some rain. In the afternoon I read the newspapers; but did not learn much to profit by it, 0 Lord, Most High, give me to know thy will and make me an efficient minister and all else my go. Office and got my mail and then came home and tried to prepare for preaching on the sabbath, I spent the whole day at home, nothing new occurred at all. MAY Sabbath, 1st day At home - all well except my wife who had head ache. At 11 o'clock I went to the meeting house and tried to preach to a very attentive congregation from Psalms 63 & 3. At 3 o'clock P. M. I preached to the Negros from Luke 10 & 42. At night I again preached to the white people from Hebrews 11 & 4. May the Lord sanctify his truth to the hearts of all who heard and may it sooner or later prove to be his power unto the salvation of their souls. Monday, 2nd day At home - all well - spent this forenoon at home - went down town to the post -office and say Bro Powell and others. In the afternoon I went to see old Bro. Hunter who is some better. Office and saw the Montgomery Military company pass to Macon on the train. Three young men of our town Harvey, Pastell and Young; - being engaged ifmflng'a: cannon were severly injured by a blast of powder. May God sanctify it to the good of their souls. I then went to Bro Hiley's and spent most of the day very pleasantly at his house. I returned in the afternoon finding all welll. The Lord be praised for his mercy. Wednesday, 4th day at home - all well - I arose this morning early and went to old Bro. Holley's and spent the day with him in fishing and caught "a few little fishes'.-The day however was spent pleasantly in conversation. May the Lord bless his family and lead them in the way everlasting. I returned to my home and found all well. May the Lord guide us in the good old way until we reach that heavenly land and be forever blest. Amen. Thursday, 5th day At home - wll well - I went to the office and t hen made ready to leave town. I went to the Baptist meeting house at 10 o'clock A. M. to see the procession form for the Sabbath school celebration. The "Governor's Guard" & Masonic Fraternity marched with the sabbath school children from the Baptist church to the Methodist reeling house where the Lecture was to be delivered by Mr. Scott of Americus. At 11 o'clock I took the train for Bevnolds where I met Mr. T.J. Marshall who took me tbibis Father's in his buggy. I spent the afternoon with Bro. Marshall and at 7 o'clock we went to Bro. Corbin's where I joined Mr. J. T. Humphries and Miss Catharine Corbin in the holy bonds of wedlock. I spent the evening pleasantly and then went home with Bro Marshall and spent the night. Friday, 6th day At the residence of, Asa Marshall in Taylor, Co. We went fishing this day and spent the day very pleasantly indeed.May God in mercy grant to him (Marshall) grace to live as he ought and may we meet in heaven at last I Saturday. 7th day At the residence of Asa Marshall Taylor, Co. Ga. At 11 o'clock We went to the Baptist Meeting house at Union where I tried to preach to a few people who had there collected. I then went home with Bro. Henderson Wood to dinner and in the afternoon went to Bro Carson's Mill where in company with Bro. Thos Carson we fished and caught a fine string of fish. I then went to Bro. Wood's and spent the night. Sabbath, 8th day At the residence of Bro. Wood, Macon. Co.GA. At the appointed time we were at the meeting house ready to engage in the meeting. I tried to preach to an interesting audience upon "Regeneration" Went to Bro Corbin's to dinner then to Reynolds to preach to a crowded house of people. Took tea with Bro. Ingram and then took the train for Fort Valley - reached home safely and found all well. May the good Lord have all the praise of our salvation both now and forever more. We had a fine rain to-day which makes vegetation look much better. Tuesday, 10th day At home - all well - except myself. I have a bad head ache but got well about 12 o'clock. In the afternoon I went down town and gave in my taxes for this year and then any wife and I went to Bro W.R. Brown's to see his sick child. At night we went to prayer meeting when there was quite a good turnout of youg persons. May the Lord impress them with the importance of sddking him early. I then came home and went to Dr. Thomas and paid for some meal .&cj $6.00, After dinner I went to see BrO Powell and went fishing with him and we caught 28 fishes. The evening was spent pleasantly. He & I arose and after an early breakfast went to the creejl fishing and caught many fishes. The day was spent very pleasantly except when the mosquitoes but and when we went through the thick cane and briers of the swamp. I came home in the evening and found all well. Amen & Amen Friday, 13th day At home - all well - I spent this whole day at home in preparing for my ministerial labors - While engaged in preparing a sermon in the forenoon Mr. Moranville caiae round to sell me "Lossing's History of the American Revolution" - I subscribed for his book at $7.00. In the afternoon I felt badly, having a slight head ache, but I pursued my course of reading, I trust, not without profit. 0 may the Lord teach it correctly. May I ever be faithful in my mihisterial labors to God & men. Amen Saturday. l4th day At home - all well - Weather fine. This was the conference day with our church at this place. I tried to preach to them at 11 O'clock, then met in conference and appointed a committee to see Bro. John Humber and cite him to next conference, In the afternoon I visited 3 families and spent some time in my study. The Lord be magnified magnified for his grace ! Sabbath 15th day At home - all well - weather fine. We assembled at the Baptist meeting house in this place and I tried to preach to a large and attentive audience upon the subject of communion. We then communed and were dismissed. At 3 o'clock I preached to the colored people and they communed and then had conference when we excluded one colored member and received 3 by experience. At night I tried to preach again. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen Monday, l6th day At home - all well - weather pleasant after the rain last night. I arose this morning and as soon as suitable arrangements could be made I sat out to Bro. Gray's. We took our hooks and went up to the pond and during the day we caught 5 trout, 2 jacks, and 11 perches which made us each a fine mess. I came home and found all well. I read during this day about 100 pages in "Scott's Analogy between Natural and Revealed Religion". The work is well written'and as a whole a" good book, but it has some Theological errors. D. Norwood [wife's family] I arrived there in safety and found all his family in good health. I spent the forenoon with the family and in the afternoon J.M. Amen & Amen Friday, 20th day At home - all well - I spent this forenoon at home. At 10 o'clock Bro Powell came to my house and spent a couple of hours with me. After we had eaten dinner we set out for Traveler's Rest [Macon Co] • We arrived safely at Bro Davis' and spent the night with him. Thank the Lord for his tender care and love. Amen & Amen Saturday, 21 st day At Bro Davis in Macon Co. At 10 o"clock we went to Traveler's Rest meeting house and at 10 o'clock I tried to preach to an interesting company of Brethren. After service, the church called for the ordination of Bro. Edward B. Barreth. When Bro.Skellie proceeded to examine the church and I then examined the candidate we were then dismissed in order I went home with Bro. Camp who lives in Oglethorpe and at night preached at the Baptist meetinghouse in Cuylen (or Cuyler). The Lord is good and thus werare saved from death and destruction. Sabbath, 22nd day I went this morning to the Traveler's Rest church and at 11 o'clock Bro. J. Walker preached a fine ordination sermon from Neh. 6:3. Then Bro Kellie offered the ordination prayer and Bro Powell the charge and I presented the Bible. Bro. Camp the right band of fellowship after dismission we took dinner with Bro Cheevers and at 4:30 o'clock I preached at the church and at 6:15 took the cars and came home and found all well. In the afternoon Bro. J. H. Corley came and spent the afternoon with me and at night preached a good sermon from the text, "The soul that sinneth, it shall die". Amen Friday, 27th day At home - All Well - I spent the forenoon of this day with Bro. Corley until the Accom. train came when he went to Americus and I came home to make ready to leave on the train at ll:30- o'clock for REYNOLDS. I there met Bro. Thomas Carson's son with his horse and buggy in which I rode to his house and after dinner we went fishing and caught but few. The evening however, was spent very pleasantly with his family. After early breakfast we set out for Mr.Hick's mill to fish.We spent half the day fishing and caught nothing. We then went to see Old Bro Carson who had just returned from Texas. He gave us an interesting account of that country. Late in the evening I went to Bro. Thomas Carson'-s and spent the night, suffering some with the head ache. At the appointed time we set out for Union Church and arrived there safely and found Bro Walker, Editor of the Index, who preached us a very good sermon from the text in Rev. 22: 17. I then took dinner at Bro. Marshall's and then went to the school house at Reynolds and preached at 4 o'clock P.M. At 7 o'clock Bro Walker and I came home and I found all well. Monday, 30th day At home - all well - I went this morning to the P. Office: but got no mail. I then visited 3 families on my way home. I read some in "Scott's Analogy of Masonry and nat. and Rev. Religion. From what I can learn from this book there is nothinig '"of great value connected with the Mason's institution. In the afternoon I went down town to visit some other families and conversed with different Brethren and friends with whom I chanced to meet. I heard Bro Hannady preach a good sermon and there was quite a good state of feeling among the members. May the Lord pour out his spirit upon them that many may be converted and saved with an everlasting salvation. I took dinner at the house of Mr. Orr who is quite a gentleman and his wife quite a Lady. God bless them. May their souls be saved. I came home on the night train and found all well. Paterson at Everett's plantation in order to take a deer hunt - but the ground being very dry the dogs could not trail and we postponed the hunt to some future day. At 11 o'clock I went to the meeting house and preached to the church and afterwards opened the door of the church when Mrs. Killew came forward and related her experience to the church and was received. Sabbath, 19th day At home - all well - I went this morning to the water and baptised 5 candidates. I then returned and preached at 11 O'clock to an interesting audience. E. meetinghouse and heard Mr. Stuart make a glorious failure in trying to preach Apostasy. We spent the night with Bro. Ellis. Saturday, 25th day At Knoxville - I went to the meeting house at 11 o'clock and Bro. Campbell preached us a good sermon on the preciousness of Christ to the Believer" After sermon we received one for baptism and then ajourned meeting at night. Sabbath, 26th day At Knoxville - We went to the water at 9 o'clock and I baptised Col. Ausley. At 11 o'clock we came to the meetinghouse and Bro. Campbell preached us a fine sermon on the happiness of saints in this and the other world. At 3 o'clock I preached to the colored people. At night I preached to the white congregation and many came up for prayer. May the Lord pour out his spirit abundantly upon the inhabitants of this wicked town. Amen & Amen Monday, 27th day At Knoxville - I came home to see my family and found all well - I spent part of the day at home and at 4 o'clock in the afternoon I set our for Knoxville and arrived there at dusk and then went to the meetinghouse and heard Bro, Campbell preach on the subject of sin. Several came up for prayer and seemed to feel much. Tuesday, 28th day At Knoxville - We went to prayer meeting at 8 o'clock and had five feeling. Bro. Ellis and I went to Mr. A. Harris and spent the day with his family and found them an "interesting people. I came back to town and went to meeting at night and tried to preach to a large congregation. Quite a good feeling was manifested. Wednesday, 29th day At Knoxville - I went this morning to the prayer meeting when we had quite a good meeting indeed. Bro Campbell made a few remarks and I talked a little while. After the prayer meeting I went to Mr.Wraightis and took dinner and then returned to Bro. Ellis' and saw Bro. Campbell leave"for Fort Valley. At night I tried to preach to quite a large congregation. Many seemed to feel much. All passed off well. Thursday, 30th day At Knoxville - I went to the prayer meeting at 8 o'clock - we had a very good meeting. After pr. meeting I went to Mr. Lowers and took dinner. After spending a while with them I came back to town and prepared to preach at night. At night our congregation was fine and the feeling good. JULY Friday, 1st day At "Knoxville - I went to the prayer meeting at 8 o'clock and then went to Sister Ausley's and took dinner,. IiCame back to town in the afternoon and went to the water and baptised W. A. Averd. [Avend ?] At night I heard Bro. Cunningham preach. We closed the meeting by prayer and dismissed the people until my next appointment. Amen Saturday, 2nd day At Knoxville - I arose this morning and made preparation to leave this place for Fort Valley. I left for home and after riding in the hot sun for more than 3 hours I reached home safely and found all well. I spent the remainder of the day at home. My F. in Law and part of his family spent the day with us. Uncle D. P. Everett came at night and spent the night with me. Sabbath, 3rd day At home all well - I went this morning to the meeting house and preached to my people here as usual . At 3 o'clock Bro Everett preached to my colored people. Tuesday, 5th day At home - all well - I spent part of this day at home. I went the -Male Academy to witness the Examination of the students. In the afternoon I went to the mill to get some flour and while there was taken with diarrhea very badly. I came home and suffered much during the night. Wednesday, 6th day At home - all well except myself. I suffered much during this day but was better in the afternoon. I spent the entire day at home partly in trying to read a little as I felt able. I spent part of this day at the Methodist meeting house where the large boys of the school were making speeches. I think that Billy Grey took off the prize. We have abundance of rain in these times. It falls almost every day by the quantity. Surely there will be fine crops made. I have written two skeletons of sermons and read a portion "Buckte" "Harmony and Exposition of our Lord's Great prophesy" which is very interesting indeed. I went down town and saw the Methodist Parson and ate a water melon with him. He is quite friendly and sociable. I then attended the burial of Bro. Waldon's child and then heard Bro. Sabbath, 31st day At home - all well - On this day at 11 o'clock Bro. J. Salker of Macon preached for us a good sermon and received about 20 subscribers for his paper. At night he preached again and took more subscribers for the "Champion". Amen AUGUST Monday, 1st day At home all well- I went this morning to the Depot with Bro J. Walker, who took the train for Macon. I spent an hour in town among my Brethren and then came home and read some in "Cases of Conscience". Bro. R. T. Byrd came and took dinner with me. I then went with him in town and sold some of Bro. Walker'^ Review at Dr. Pierce's " Tract for Family Use" I then came home and read several chapters in Ezekiel. Thus passed away the first day of August. Tuesday, 2nd day At home all well- I went to my reading this morning and r ead a portion of the "Scriptures. In the afternoon a Daughter was born unto us. I spent part of the afternoon in reading the Scriptures. May the good Lord enable me to understand his word and treasure it up in my heart 1 Amen & Amen Wednesday, 3rd day At home - all well - I spent the forenoon of this day at home with my wife and Baby. My Father - in - Law spent the day with us. In the afternoon they left for home. I went to the meeting house with Bro. Thomas to attend some business. At night Bro. B. L. Ross preached for us. An earnest faithful sermon. God Bless him and his. Amen Thursday, 4th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home as usual. I read some little in the Bible and tried to think a little, but did not accomplish much. In the afternoon I went down town and spent an hour or two in converstion with some Brethren. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen Friday, 5th day At home - all well - I went down town this morning after breakfast and after spending an hour in conv erst ion, I came home and read -lairtil dinner. In the afternoon I read the Bible, finished the Old Testament and commenced the New - for this year. 1 saddled my horse and rode out for exercise. The Lord is good indeed. Amen Saturday, 6th day At home - all well - I spent this day at home in reading the Scriptures of Matt. & Mark. Every time I read the Gospel of Christ I find it new and more interesting that ever before. 0 lord, help me to unde stand thy blessed word and to preach it successfully to others. Amen & Amen Sabbath, 7th day At home - all well - At 11 o'clock I went to meeting house and tried to preach to my friends about the blessed Savior - Matt 1:21. In the afternoon I went to see Bro. Powers' family and spent most of the afternoon with them. At night I did not go to meeting. We are having much rain. Monday, 8th day At home - all well - This morning I read several chapters in "Josephus" commencing with the first Vol. and first Chap. It is very interesting and I intend to read it regularly through. In the afternoon, I wrote some letters and carried them to the P. Office and spent an hour or two in converstion with different Brethren and friends. I then came home and spent the evening pleasantly with my family. Amen Tuesday, 9th day At home - all well - I spent this entire day at home in reading " Josephus" It is certainly a most interesting work. God has always helped his people when it was absolutely necessary. They have ever been able to triumph over their enemies and in like manner may the church of Christ triumph ovee all other Sects in these latter times. Amen & Amen Wednesday, 10th day At home - all well - I spent the forenoon of this day at home in reading until 12 o'clock. At noon came my Mother in Law and a couple of children and spent the afternoon and night with us. At night I took the train for Macon and thence to Forsyth and found Mother and family well. Thursday, 11th day At. .Forsyth Monroe, Co. Georgia. I spent this day with mainly with Mother. I saw her returns for Octavia and Ryland, officially signed by John T. Stephens and Mother and I also agreed to exchange horses with Mother. In the afternoon I went up town and spent some time in converstion with Dr. Stephens and D. Sanford. This whole day was most pleasantly spent at Forsyth. FridFriday, 12th day. I leI lefft Forsyth this morning at 5 o'clock and came to MacoMacon where I spent some time with Bro. Tharpe. At 10 o'clock I left for Fort Valley and when when arrived I found all well well and spent the afternoon very pleasantly with my family exceexcept my having head ache. Amen SatuSaturday, 13th day At hAt home - I left this morning on the Freight train at 8:30 o'clock for Reynolds to which I came in good time and then rode with Bro. Ingram in his Buggy to Union Meeting house. Bro. Marshall preached to us at 11 o'clock and I then took dinner with Bro. Marshall. At night we met and I tried to preach and then went home with Bro. Bryant and spent the night. Sabbath. l4th day At the Residence of Bro Bryant in MaconCo. Ga. At 10 o'clock we met for prayer and 11:00 o'clock I tried to preach to a large audience. I took dinner with Bro. Corbin and spent the afternoon at his house. At night I tried to exhort after Bro. Marshall had preached. Our congregation was very large and may the good Lord bless them with hearing ears and understanding hearts. Monday, 15th day At the residence of Bro. Marshall in Taylor Co., Ga.. I went to the meeting house at 10 o'clock today and had a very pleasant meeting indeed and at night we had meeting also. I spent the night with Bro Corbin. May the good Lord sanctify his truth to the hearts of the people.Amen Amen Tuesday, l6th day At the residence of Bro. Corbin in Macon, Co. Georgia. I am this day 25 years old. At 10 o'clock we went to the meeting house and Bro. Marshall preached a capital sermon upon the "Spirituality of divine Service". May the Lord bless him abundantly ! I took dinner with Bro. Marshall and spent part of the afternoon with him and then took the train for Fort Valley. I soon reached home and found all well. Bless the good Lord for his mercy. Wednesday, l?tb day At home - all well - I went downtown after breakfast and bought a buggy from Bro. Patterson at $130.00 and engaged Mr.Miller to make me a set of harness.I came home and read the Index. In the afternoon I went out to see Bro. Gray and bought 10 bushels of corn from him at 75 cents for Bushel. I learned sad news about James Mims. 0 that the good Lord would turn him from the error of his way and save him. May the Lord bless his wife and his children. Amen & Amen Thursday. l8th day At home - all well - I spent this forenoon in reading partly and then went to the R. Road where I met with Uncle D.P. Everett and family and My sister who came home with me and spent the afternoon and night. I spent this afternoon very pleasantly indeed. Bro, Powell came also and spent an hour with us. May the good Lord bless Everett and his family with great blessings. Friday, 19th day At home all well - I spent the forenoon of this day in reading and writing. In the afternoon I read and thought some. I also wrote some Uetters and mailed them. I spent an hour or two in town. We had a shower of rain just before sunset. The Lord is very good to us. May his name have the praise. Saturday, 20th day At home - all well - I spent the forenoon of this day in preparing to preach in this place. At 11 o'clock I wnt to the meetinghouse and tried to preach to my people on the subject of the "Prosperity of the Church". All passed off well except my making a failure in preaching. Delegates were elected to the association and money collected for missions &c. This day passed off well - Bless the Lord. Amen & Amen Sabbath, 21st day At home all well - I spent this day with my church at home. At. 11 o'clock I preached a missionary sermon after which we collected from the congregation 39 dollars. This daywas our connumion. At 3 o'clock I preached to the col. people and also communed. At night I tried to preach to the white people. This day passed off pleasantly indeed. May the Lord have all the peaise. Amen Monday, 22nd day At home - all well - I went to the Post Office this morning and a fter spending an hour or two in town I came home and read my papers. Nothing of special interest occurred during this day. Ireceived a letter from Bro. Hornady -to come and assist him in meeting at Americus. Henry Norwood spent the night with us. Thus passed the day. Amen Wednesday, 24th day All well - I received another letter frcan Bro. Hornaday to come to his meeting and I made ready and took the accommondation train for Americus just before ten o'clock & arrived safely at Americus at little past one P. M. Bro. Bryd met me at the train and I went home with him to dine and then to Bro. Hornady's house and spent the even-ing with him • At night I preached and then spent the night with Bro. Byrd. Thursday, 25th day At Americus - Ga - I went this morning to prayer meeting at 9 o'clock when we had a gogd meeting. Many of the Brethren seemed to feel much. I went with Bro. Homady to dinner and in the afternoon J. P. Duncan, a Methodist preacher, Came round to see us. At night I preached again to a large congregation, where there seemed to be a good state of feeling indeed. May the Good Lord pour out his spirit upon that people and save all his elect with an everlasting salvation. Amen & Amen Friday, 26th day At Americus - Ga. I arose this morning and found my self at house of my hospitable Bro. Byrd- At 9 o'clock we went to the prayer meeting and there we had a capital meeting Bro. Hornaday and I dined at Bro. Sam'l Kendrick's wi-th his pleasant family. At one o'clock Bro. J. H. Campbell came to assist in the meeting and at 5 o'clock I left for home. Reached home safely and found all well. Bless the good Lord. Amen Saturday, 27th day At home - all well - I set out immediately after breakfast for Knoxville and arrived arrived at the meeting house just before 11 o'clock where I treied to preach. Door opened and one rec'd by letter. Delegates elected to Association &c. At night Bro. Asa Marshall preached a good sermon. Bro. Marshall and I spent the night with Bro. Eillis. Bless the Lord for his goodness and mercy. Amen & Amen Sabbath, 28th day At Knoxville - I went this morning at 9-i o'clock to the water and baptized Miss Georgia A. Harris, who, (as we came up out of the water) made some most striking re-marks to her sister & friends. May the good Lord cause them soon to follow her in obedience to his command. At 11 o'clock I tried to preach to a large and attentive audience who had assembled at the meeting house- I took dinner with Bro. McAfee and then visited Sister Harvey who is sick. Then came to Bro. Park's and at night I again tried to preach to large congregation. May the Lord pour out his spirit upon the people of the town and save his elect. Amen & Amen Monday. 29th day At knoxville - After Breakfast Dr. LeSueur and I set out in my Buggy for Forsyth to which we arrived safely at 12 o'clock I spent the afternoon at Mother''s in conversatiol with her on various subjects of interest. After tea Prof. R. T. Asbury came around and spent the evening with me in very pleasant converstion. Thus passed the business &c of another day. Bless the good Lord for his tender mercies. Amen & Amen Tuesday, 30th day At Forsyth, Ga, All well - After the usual business of the morning I had my horse, which I had taken in exchange from Mother hornessed and I set out for home. At. 10 o'clock I arrived at Knoxville where I took dinner and V rested for two hours and then set out for Fort Valley where I arrived safely at 6 o'clock P. M. and found my family all well. May the good Lord have all the praise for his unspeakable goodness and tender care over us. May the Lord give him grace to keep humble and faithful to bear up under trials and firmnesstibo stand up for the whole truth as it is in Jesus Christ. In the afternoon I went down town to Bro. Avera's Store and then to the Carriage Factory and spent an hour in conversation wit'h my friends there and then came home. Thus for has the Lord kept us. May he still keep us. May God bless the Editor and give him grace to keep humble. In the afternoon I went out to Mim's Mill to get some meal.. Came back and spent the Evening in studying my sermon for the Association. Friday, 2nd day At home - all well - I went to the P. Office - came home - read a while -.Bro. W. B. (or R.) Brown came by and I went with him to hear the Hon. Tho. Hardeman, Candidate 'for Congress in this District, deliver a political speech.Came home with head ache. I did nothing during the afternoon. The Lord is good to me above what I deserve. 0 may my heart in tune always be found! May my days all be spent in his service. Amen Saturday, 3rd day At home - all well - I spent this forenoon in reading and study. At 11 o'clock I went to1he meeting house and tried to preach to a few members of the church about "Keeping themselves unspotted from the world". In the afternoon I went downtown to attend to some business. Bless the Lord for his goodness. Amen Sabbath, 4th day At home - all well I spent this day at home in my usual services. At 11 o'clock I went to the meeting house and tried to preach to a very large congregation on the Doctrine of Election. At 3 o'clock P. M. I tried to preach again to the negroes and at night to the whites when the audience was large and attentive. May the good Lord sanctify his truth to the hearts ifaSfcthe people and save his elect. Amen Monday, 5th day At home - all well - I went to town this morning and spent an hour or two in attending to some business. I then came home and spent the day until late in the afternoon reading "Josephus" I then went to Miller's Carriage shop to get a set of harness made Bro James Everett. Thus passed another day. Amen Tuesday, 6th day At home - all well - I set out after breadkfast to Mr. L. D. Norwoods, and there spent the day with his family and some company. Late in the afternoon I came home and at night went to prayer meeting. Bless the Lord for his goodness. Amen Wednesday, 7th day At home - all well - I went this morning to the Post Office and found Bro. Tharp. at the Hotel and brought him home with me where he spent the forenoon and took dinner, I then went with him to the cars when he left for Cuthbert. I then heard a little of Col. Spear's speech and a little haraugue from a Mr. Lochran of Macon. I visited Old Bro John Lamar who is very sick at Bro. Carnes (?) and talked and prayed with him. He is perfectly resigned to the will of God and trusts in the blessed Savior. I then visited Bro. Charles Skellie who is sick and talked and prayed with him. May the Lord give him grace to bear up under his afflictions and to put his trust in the Savior entirely. I want to see Charlie again after tea and found him resting quietly and said nothing to him. Thus passed the labors of another day. Surely the Lord is good and faithful I May he ever be with his people and may he soon revive us again at this place.' 0 Lord revive us 1 and cause thy face to shine upon us. Amen Thursday, 8th day At home - all well - I went to town this morning with my wife to do some trading at the stores and then came home and then read and slept till dinneri In the afternoon I visited Bro Lamar and Skellie who are sick and found them, I trust, better. Late in the afternoon I rode out in my buggy with my lettle boys. Thus passed away another day. After tea I read a good article on "saving faith" by Samuel Pike of England. Kellie who are very sick- At 11:30 o'clock I took the train for Reynolds. I took dinner with Bro. Ingram and spent part of the afternoon with him and then went Bro. At 12 o'clock we took the train for Butler and soon were at the Depot, where Brethren Rucker and Wilson met us. We went home with Bro. Rucker to dinner. Rucker's-to the meeting house at 11 o'clock and tried to preach and then went back to Bro. Rucker's and spent part of the afternoon. I went to the Depot in company with Bro, Rucker and saw Bro.Wilson and then took the train with Bro. Marshall - he for Reynolds and I for Ft Valley. I reached home safely and found all well - ate supper and went to seee old Bro. Lamar and found him very law. May the good Lord have mercy upon us and keep us form sin. Asa Marshall and at night married Mr. L. Lockett to Miss Emma_Corbin and came back to Bro. Marshall's and spent the night, Friday, l6th day At Reynolds, Taylor County, Ga. I took the train at Reynolds at 7:30 o'clock for Macon and then to Barnesville in company with many Brethren. At Barnesville we met many more Brethren on their way to the Association. We took dinner there. I at D. H. Moore's and then we went to The Association. I post(?) up with Bro. Ross and spent the night very pleasantly indeed. Saturday, l7th day At Thomaston, Georgia. I, after making some preparation went to the Baptist meeting-house and preached the Introductory sermon. We then took dinner on the ground. At 2 o'clock we met at the Female Academy and organized the Association by Electing Bro. J. King and W.C. Wilkes for Mod. and clerk. We then proceeded to attend to business in order. All passed off finely. At night Bro. W. M. Davis preached a good sermon. There were a great many people present and all seemed to enjoy themselves finely. May the good Lord sanctify that meeting to the good of all that community. And may his name have all the praise. Amen & Amen Sunday 18th day At Thomaston - At the residence of Bro. Ross. At 10:30 o'clock we went to the Arbor and heard Bro. W. C. Wilkes preach a good mission sermon and after dinner Bro. B. F. Tharpe preached a fine sermon on the "Triumphs of Christ's Kingdom". I went home with Uncle Jake King and preached at a brush arbor in his neighborhood. All passed off well . Bless the good Lord. Amen Monday, 19th day At Thomaston - At 8 o'clock the Association met persuant to ajournment and commenced business. All passed off well. We passed a Resolution saying "That we discontinue our Connection with the Boards foreign and domestic only so far as using them as our financial Agents" by a vote of 33 to 8. On this subject we had some interesting discussion by Landrum, Tharp and others. At night Bro. Powell preached the farewell sermon and Uncle Jake King closed after him with an eloquent appeal to his Brethren for faithfulness. Amen & Amen Tuesday, 20th day At Thomaston, Georgia. At 8 o'clock we met at the Baptist meeting house where Bro. Landrum preached us an excellent sermon upon the Emmanuel - God with us". We then went to the Depot and took the train for Barnesville. We there took dinner. I went to Aunt Lillie Turner's to get my dinner and the rest to Dr. Hannady' s Office. After dinner we set out some for Forsyth and some for Macon, I stopped at Forsyth and at night preached and then spent the night with Mother. Bless the Lord for his goodness and tender mercies. Wednesday, 21st day Forsyth.Ga. I took the train in company with Bro. Tharp _and his Lady and bthers for Macon where we arrived in safety and took dinner"at the Brown house. At 10 o'clock I took the train for Fort Valley and soon reached home in safety and found my .family all welli I spfent the afternoon in riding out with Bro. Davis to Bro.Harris in the country. He remained with me until bed time and then left, All passed off well indeed. May the good Lord have all the praise world with out end.
