Frank Carter Dies Unexpectedly Community Shocked And Saddened By Untimely Death Of Young Matron And Devoted Mother Fort Valley people were shocked and greatly saddened by the sudden death Sunday night of Mrs. D. Frank Carter, at the family residence on Central Avenue. Mrs. Carter had suffered an attack of acute indigestion a short time before her death, but had apparently recovered from the attack and was thought to be doing well, when a sudden change for the worse took place and death soon followed. The funeral services were held at the residence Monday afternoon. An unusually sad feature of Mrs. Carter’s death was that of her infant son, which occurred a very short time before her own, mother and child being interred together in Oaklawn cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. F. Quillian and Rev. C.C. Pugh. Mrs. Carter was a young matron of lovable and admirable character, her predominate trait being her unselfish devotion to her children, husband and home. She was a member of the Methodist church and was active in the Sunday School and missionary work of the church. Mrs. Carter, before her marriage was Miss Mattie Scroggs, the youngest daughter of Prof. and Mrs. W.J. Scroggs. She was born at Southport, N.C. Her father was for many years superintendent of the Fort Valley public school, and was one of the most highly esteemed educators and citizen this community has ever known. She is survived by her husband, three children, Franklin, aged 9; Martha aged 5, and Phillip Frederick, aged 3, her mother, Mrs. W.J. Scroggs; one sister, Mrs. R.E. Brown, of this city; and two brothers, Dr. W.O. Scroggs, of Baton Rouge, La., and Mr. Philip P. Scroggs, of Augusta. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to these bereaved ones. – Fort Valley Leader-Tribune File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/houston/obits/c/carter7579ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
