Southern Christian Advocate, vol. III, no. 153, 4th col., p. 195.  Issue of 22 May 1840
"Died on the 29th Feb., Smith Davenport, Sr. of Houston Co, GA.  Brother 
Davenport was in the sixty-fourth year of his age and thirty-fourth of his 
church membership.  He was a native of Halifax County, Virginia, but had 
resided in Georgia for thirty-four years, during twenty-seven of which he had 
been a class leader in the Methodist Episcopal Church.  He was a meek and 
humble Christian, of a kind and tender heart.  His religion was unostentatious 
but sincere.  The Church is called to lament the loss of his valuable services; 
but he died as could be wished; the triumph being complete."

Smith Davenport married Frances Benson Davenport on 17 Jan 1807 in Oglethorpe 
Co., GA.
