Death of W. E. Means.
     Early last Saturday morning Mr. Walter E. Means died at his home in Elko, 
after an illness of about two weeks.  The burial was in the family cemetery 
Sunday morning.
     Mr. Means was about 35 years of age, a son of the late Dr. M. H. Means, 
and is survived by his devoted wife, one son and one daughter, four brothers 
and two sisters.
     A Steward of the Methodist Church, a Mason, a public spirited citizen, he 
made a record of business activity and constructive ability.  In business 
affairs he was mainly instrumental in establishing the Bank of Elko, and was 
its president, he reconstructed the brick warehouse, built an up-to-date 
ginnery, besides managing his extensive farming interests.
     The measure of his success is a result; his progressive activity and 
indomitable perseverence undoubtedly added much to the material interest of 
the community in which he lived.
     In public affairs he was always in-interested [sic], and his convictions 
were always positive.
     Well known and most highly esteemed, his death is a positive loss to the 
community and the county.
     With the bereaved family and other loved relatives, his many friends 
sincerely sympathise.

Additional Comments:
Walter E. Means was born 19 April 1877, the son of Dr. Matthew Harvey Means 
and Sarah (Dunwody) Means.  He m. Sallie Crawford Gaines on 3 November 1895 in 
Houston Co., GA.  They are buried at the Dr. Matthew Harvey Means Family 
Cemetery in Elko, Houston Co., GA.
