Harold Ward Nation, 85, of Perry, GA, passed peacefully from this Earth on 6 December 2018 after an extended illness. He was a kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Erma Jean Saxon Nation; son Harold Douglas Nation (Luci) of Perry; daughter Alice Gay Nation (Frank) of Muncie, IN; and daughters Vickie Carol Graham (Eugene) and Donna Lynne Watson (Julian) of Perry. Also left to cherish his memory are 6 grandsons, 6 great- grandsons, and 3 great-granddaughters. Mr. Nation, the son of Fred Duncan and Bertha Ward Nations, was born June 4, 1933, in Wilmot, North Carolina – the fifth of 10 sons and daughters. He resided in Crawford, GA, Warner Robins, GA - where he survived the tornado of 1953 - and finally, in Perry, GA. Mr. Nation began his nearly 40-year career as a Department of the Air Force Civilian at Robins AFB, GA, as a sheet metal mechanic. His contributions include recovering aircraft from mothball status in support of the Korean War, the repair and recovery of an aircraft that crash landed in Greenland, and the return of many battle-damaged B-52s to service in Vietnam. After retiring from Robins AFB, Mr. Nation worked part-time at Walker-Rhodes Tractor Company in Perry, GA. He is equally well known as a gentleman farmer and cattle rancher, superb hunter, and avid fisherman. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be Monday, 10 December 2018, at 2:00pm at Watson-Hunt Funeral home, 1208 Main Street, Perry, GA. Interment will follow immediately at Perry Memorial Gardens.
