Funeral services were conducted the following afternoon at Gardner Watson Funeral Home here by the Rev. J. B. Smith, pastor of Perry Methodist Church. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Thurmond was born October 6, 1854, in Forsyth, and was the oldest man in Houston County. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Andrew, Miss Olga Thurmond, of Perry, and Fay D. Thomaston, of Columbus; one brother, George F. Thurmond, of Griffin; one half brother, Dr. Thomas Thurmond, of Griffin; two half sisters, Mrs. George D. Hall, of Barnesville, and Mrs. Ivan D. Johnson, of Forsyth; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Thurmond was a member of the Barnesville Blues, widely known National Guard unit, and a graduate of Hilliard Institute. He was a life-time member of the Methodist Church and had made his home in Perry 75 years.
