Watson, Col. Wiggins, and Major Elijah Dean concerning a motion to create a new Battalion in Houston County. Perry, Houston County May 27, 1830 The officers composing the 55th Regiment met this day agreeable for the appointment for the purpose of court of inquire. Present: Col Watson, Lt Col, Wiggins, Maj Dean, etc On motion of ensign Morgan ordered that a committee be appointed to inquire and report to this body, upon the expediency of creating a New Batallion in the County of Houston, and that all petitions in relation thereto or petitions for the alteration of any district be referred to said committee, and that Lt. Col Wiggins, Maj Dean and Ensign Morgan be that committee. Trial followed because the offices failed to atten that drill, held in Perry, on the 26th of April 1830. The resolution offered by the committee for the formation of a Battalion and new district, being under consideration; the same were adopted and ordered to be recorded. The trail of the defaulters followed: The result was that the county was to be divided into three Battalions: the Town District, the old Tenth, Eleventh and twelveth to compose a new Batallion - That Col Wiggins' Battalion be composed of the new created district of the 15th and 9th and the new created district in the 5th -- and Maj. Dean's battalion be composed of the 13th 14th the new created district of the 14th and 15th --- Of which is respectfully submitted, and to which the desire the concurance of the court-- Here follows the adding of individuals to other districst each to which they belong, agreeable to their request, so far as relates to military duty.
