Telephone messages received by Perry Wednesday, April 29th, by Mr. A. A. Smoak and Mr. C. F. Marshall, announced the wedding of Miss Agnes Smoak of Perry and Mr. Charles P. Marshall, Jr., of Macon. The announcement caused interested surprise, though there had been previous rumors that they would be married. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew A. Smoak of Perry, and the groom is the youngest son of Mr. Charles P. Marshall of Perry. The parents of the bride had forbidden the marriage, hence the marriage away from home. Miss Smoak had visited friends in Atlanta, and it is said the plans for the marriage were arraigned [sic] there. On Wednesday morning she left Atlanta on a Central Railroad train and stopped at Forsyth. Mr. Marshall went to Forsyth in an automobile with a friend, and directly after the marriage, at the Hotel Georgian, the happy couple went to Macon in the same automobile that carried the groom to Forsyth. At first the parents of the bride were very much grieved, but later decided to extend forgiveness, and in response to a parental summons, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall came to Perry on the Central train last Friday evening, spent the night at the home of the brides [sic] parents, and returned to Macon in an automobile next morning. These young people were born in Perry and are quite popular here. Mr. Marshall is in business with the S. S. Parmelee Company at Macon, and the manager speaks in high terms of the young man's business qualities. Mr. Marshall will be 19 years old next August, and his bride will not be 19 until next December. The many friends of the happy young couple extend cordial congratulations.
