Hollingsworth Abel

Mrs. Esther Mae Hollingsworth Abel of Ocilla died Thursday, October 8, 
1998. She was 90.
Mrs. Abel was born January 29,1908, in Ocilla, the daughter of Rich and 
Leola Hollingsworth. She
was owner and operator of a beauty school for years. She also taught in 
the Irwin county school system.
She and her husband, Julius Abel,founded, owned and operated Abel 
Funeral- Home for almost a-half century
Mrs. Abel was a life member of the Mt. Zion chapter #59 Order of the 
Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron for nineactive years. She was an 
active·member of Ocilla
Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Ebony Ladies Social Club and the Ben 
Hill-Irwin Retired Teachers
Association.
Mrs. Abel was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Abel.
Survivors indude her children, Jonathan (Clevenia) Abel, Alonzo Simaro 
Abel and Harold Abel and
her grandchildren, Daphana, Daniel, Julius Eric, Jonathan, Jr., Ira, 
Deborah and Carolyn.
Services were held at Ocilla Chapel Freewill Baptist Church on Sunday, 
October 11 at 3 p.m., with
Rev. A. D. Wright officiating.
Music was provided by the choir, a solo by Melvin McCutchen and a duet 
by Novella Miller and Mrs. Panie Miller.
Pallbearers were Ira Roberson,Jonathan Abel, Jr., Daniel Jeffrey Abel, 
Julius Eric Abel, Ambric
Bridgeforth, Jr and Daniel Herring.
Interment was held at Ocilla Cemetery.
Henderson Memorial Chapel of Fitzgerald and Abel Funeral Home of Ocilla 
were in charge of arrange-
ments.
