She was 79. Mrs. Meeks was born August 24, 1918, in Ocala, FL, the daughter of W.. Florence and Elizabeth Blalock. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Meeks had lived in Ocilla for the past 45 years. She was a former resident of Tifton and Fitzgerald, Mrs. Meeks was a 1935 graduate of Tift County High School. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union and a former Youth Sunday School teacher at Ocilla Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Valjean Meeks of Ocilla; one son, Mel Meeks of Newnan; one daughter, Beth Tucker of Chula; four grandchildren and one sister, Frances Whitham of Milledgeville. Services were held at Ocilla Baptist Church, on Thursday, August 20, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Phil Wilkes officiating. . Music was provided by organist, Sue Wilkes and soloist; Joe Benfield. Pallbearers were Hugh Roberts, Larry Young, Pat Ashley, Ray Paulk, Cliff Tankersley, Ray Griffin and Clark Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Ashley, Tommy McMillan, David McMillan, Jack Gray, Cliff Walker and employees of Meeks, Roberts, Ashley, Sumner and Sirmans. Interment was held at Ocilla Cemetery.
