He was 55. Mr. Wingate was a native of Ocilla, living in Macon most of his life. He was the son of the late John and Virginia Wingate. He attended Mercer University, graduated from University of Georgia, and was a graduate of Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He was an attorney, member and Past President of the Macon Bar Association, member of the Georgia Bar Association, former member of the Optimist Club, Past Exhausted Ruler of the Macon Elks Lodge, member of the SAE Fraternity and a member of the Baptist faith. , A veteran of the U. S. Army, he attained the rank of Captain, serving in the Vietnam Conflict, receiving the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. . Survivors include his wife, Linda Wingate of Macon; one daughter, Elizabeth Veal of Valdosta; one son, John Wingate lIl of Macon; one sister, Virginia Thompson of Ocilla; and one granddaughter. Services were held Tuesday, June 23, at noon at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Macon, with Rev. Jim Smith and Rev Malcolm Davis officiating. . The burial was private.
