Tomberlin The funeral service for Roy Lee Tomberlin of Abbeville, who died Tuesday, February 10, 1998 at Dorminy Medical Center, was held Thursday, February 12 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County. He was 77. Rev. Robert McDearmid, Rev. Hal Dickson and Rev. Jimmy Sayer officiated at the 2:00 p.m. service with interment in the church cemetery . Pallbearers were Johnathan Tomberlin, Jason Tomberlin, Donnie Luke, David Eidson, Sammy Fuller, and Danny Luke. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the church and Tommy Ash, Buddy Ash and Robby Ash. The deceased was born January 31, 1921 in Irwin County to Lewis and Almeda Yarbrough Tomberlin. A retired carpenter with Roanoke Construction Co. in Fitzgerald and a member of Bethlehem Baptist . Church, where he was a deacon and former Sunday School superintendent. Mr. Tomberlin was a WWII, U.S. Army veteran, awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart and had lived in Irwin and Wilcox counties all his life. He is survived by wife, Janey Fuller Tomberlin of Abbeville; one son and daughter-in-law: Stephen L. and Debbie Tomberlin of Fitzgerald; two daughters and sons-in-law:Teresa T. and Larry Wheeler of Moultrie, Susan T. and Larry Eidson of Elberton; one brother: Yarbrough Tomberlin of Fitzgerald; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
