Sumner of Fitzgerald, who died Tuesday, February 10, 1998 at his residence, was held Friday, February 13 at Frank Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County. He was 84. Elder Maurice Riner and Elder John Shelton Mikell officiated at the 2:00 p.m. service with interment in Frank Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeffery Sumner, PauI Sumner,BilI Sumner, Warren Sumner, Wesley Sumner, Herbert Smith, Lynn Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Fain, Warren Mixon, Oscar Roberts, Alan Moore, Alan Martin, Walter Sumner, and Herman Sumner. Organist was Andi Sumner; pianist Meagan Deering; soloist: Gloria Brown and the Frank Church Choir . The deceased was born August 3, 1913 in Wheeler County to Jessie Lewis and Della Peeples Sumner. A retired farmer and member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church, . Mr. Sumner had lived in Irwin County for more than 52 years and was a former resident of Cairo. He was a Mason and member of Irwin County Democratic Committee. He also was a deacon at Frank Church. He is survived by two sons: Johnny Sumner and Hubert Sumner, both of Fitzgerald; one daughter: Rebecca Anne Smith of Jacksonville, FL; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
