Edfored Talton, Sr. Rev. Talton, of Ocilla, died Sunday, March 1, 1998 at Tift General Hospital. He was 70. Rev. Talton was born June 6,1927, the son of Rev. Isiash and Annie K. Jenkins Talton of Reynolds. He attended school in the Lax community and the Ocilla School. He joined New Bethel Lax Baptist Church in 1938 and was a member until his death. He was a minister for 47 years, graduating from Bryant Theological Seminary in Fitzgerald. He was the chairman of the Ocilla District Union Meeting for several years and the Vice Moderator of the Willacoochee Baptist Asspciation for 17 years. He organized the Minister Alliance of Irwin County, Minister Alliance of the Willacoochee Baptist Church and a member of the Irwin County Mission-In-Action. Survivors include his wife, Johnnie L. Talton of Ocilla; his children, Shirley Deberry, Rev. Edfored Talton, Jr., Dec. Jeremiah Talton, Sr., Erma Bryant, Lillian Cole, Dec. Joel Talton, Dec, Timothy Talton, Everett D. Talton, and Delphine Battle; two brothers, Rev. Isiah Talton and Rev. Johnny Talton, both of West Palm Beach, ,FL; three sisters, Eva Herring of Ocilla, Ollie Covington of West Palm Beach, FL and Ida Anderson of Ocilla; 26 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7, 1998 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ocilla with Rev. Marcus Anthony officiating. Pallbearers were Rev. Douglas Taylor_Rev. Horace Bullock, Rev. T., H. Bradswell, Rev. Garrison Stanley, Jr., Rev: Charles Luke, Rev. Tommy Washington, Rev. W. F. Mobley, and Rev. James Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Edfored Talton, Jr.,Dec. Jeremiah Talton, Bro. Darron Talton, Rev. Stanford Anderson, Dec. Timothy Talton, Dec. Joel Talton, Rev. Charles Anderson, and Rev. Thomas Wilson. Interment was in Ocilla Cemetery.
