Notary Public in and for the State and County aforesaid, personally came J.G.H. PITTMAN of Commerce, County of Jackson, State of GA, who, being duly sworn declares he is the identiacal person who enlisted at Commerce in the State of GA on the (blank) day of March 1862, in Co. E, 34th GA Regiment of the State of GA; that he know of his own personal knowledge that J. C. YEARGIN enlisted in Co. E, 34th Regiment, State of GA at Commerce, in the State of GA on the (blank) day of March 1862; that he faithfully served until the 1st(crossed out) day of May(crossed out) June, 1864; when he was honorably discharged on account of wounds received in an engagement, received in June 1864 in the State of GA, and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with said J. C. YEARGIN in Co. E 34th GA Regiment of the State of GA, and was honorably discharged at Athens, in the State of GA, on the 1st day of April, 1865, by reason of wounds received in action, and did not desert the Confederate States. WIDOW'S PENSION CLAIM State of Florida County of Volusia On this 29th day of May, 1919, personally appeared before me a Notary Public in and for the County and State aforesaid Sarah Jane YEARGIN, a resident of DeLand, County of Volusia, State of FL, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension. That she is the lawful widow of John Carter Yeargin, who enlisted under the name of John Carter Yeargin, on the (blank) day of March, 1862, in Co. E 34th Regiment, State of GA and who was honorably discharged 1864 on account of wounds received in an engagement. (Husband never drew pension.) That she was lawfully married to the said John Carter Yeargin under the name John Carter Yeargin, in the County of Jackson, State of GA, on the 8th day of February, A.D. 1866, and that she was not divorced from him nor has she remarried since his death, which occured on the 24th day of February A.D. 1898, in the County of Banks, State of GA. That she is a resident of DeLand, Volusia County, FL, and has continuously resided in the State of FL since the 29th day of October, 1901. D., 1866. The records further show that the above named parties were married on the 8th day of February A.D. 1866 and that the ceremony was performed by M. T. McGINNIS J.P. State of Florida County of Volusia Before me, a Notary Public, in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Mittie H. FRIERSON and Bessie Mc BRIDE, who, being duly sworn according to law, deposes and says, each for herself, that she knows her own personal knowledge of the death of John Carter Yeargin, which occured in Maysville, County of Banks, State of Georgia, on the 24th day of Februrary, A.D. 1898. Claime for Pension was filed Aug. 25, 1919 and approved and filed in the Comptoller's office on December 23, 1919. With pay from Aug. 25, 1919 at the rate of $240 per annum. Crisler, in witnessing an application for a pension under the Laws of FL, claims to have been a member of Co. E 34th GA. Regt., Confederate States Army, and to have served faithfully until June 1864 when he was discharged on account of wounds received. Please furnish me with the record of this soldier. Yours very truly, Ernest Aucos Reply on Aug. 12, 1919 Respectfully returned to Board of Pensions, Tallahassee, FL, with the information that there are no rolls on file in this Dept., of the organization to which reference is made, and that nothing has been found in the official records concerning the service, capture or parole of a man of that name and organization. (This was a form letter. The following is handwritten after the word organization above) subsequent to July 1863. Union Prisoners of War records show Dilmas(underlined) A. CRISLER Pvt. Co. E 34th Regt. GA Inft C.S.A. was captured at Vicksburg July 4/63 and paroled at Vicksburg, Miss. July 8/63. Nothing additional found. A similar statement in this case was furnished Commissioner of Pensions, GA., July 31, 1917. The Adjutant- General Washington D.C. Dear Sir: J.G. H. Union Prisoners of War records show him captured July 4, 1863 at Vicksburg, Miss, and paroled July 8, 1863. Other records show him captured Dec. 16, 1864, near Nashville, Tenn, rec'd at Louisville, Ky., Jan. 2, 1865 and released on Oath of Allegiance June 26, 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio. July 22, 1919 Hon. Clifford Walker Attorney- General State Capitol Dear Sir: I am in receipt of your request for information as to the dates and places of enlistment and discharge of Mr. John Carter Yeargin, deceased, a Confederate soldier who re- sided in Jackson County, Georgia, at the time of his enlistment and in Banks County at the time of his death, this information being needed to complete the application of his widow, Mrs. Sarah J. Yeargin, for a pension from the State of Florida on account of the service of her husband. The records of the State Roster Commission show that Mr. Yeargin enlisted as a private May 13, 1862 and that he was sent to hospital Nov. 27th, 1863. I would be glad if you would ascertain from Mrs. Yeargin if her husband ever drew a pension from the State of Georgia, or if he ever made application to be placed on our rolls, and , if so, it might be possible for me to obtain the information she needs from the old papers on file here.
