Williams======== . . .Mr (Ralph) Freeman said that his grandpa, Lt Henry Hosch (pronounced Hoosh) was in the same unit as Dock Kerbow . . .that being B Company (Reynold's Company) of the 16th Georgia Infantry. I told him that I recognized the unit but had noticed that the CSR file in the National Archives had a letter from his company commander, a Capt Venable. Mr Freeman didn't miss a beat when he said that Capt Venable had been adjutant of the Company until Capt Reynolds was killed. He has been shot at Crampton's Gap in Maryland, had been sent to the hospital in Richmond and had died of pneumonia. Capt Venable had been promoted to Company Commander at that time. . . . Most interesting was when Mr Freeman glanced at me and said that B Company had been formed from the members of "the lodge". "What lodge?", I asked. "My Masonic Lodge. I am the Treasurer", he said. He took me to the Masonic Lodge Hall in Hoschton where there was a framed photo of all Masters of the lodge over the years with Abner Monroe Reynolds being the original Master of the lodge when it was formed back in 1856 or so. There was no photo of Reynolds but a copy of his obituary from the local paper back in 1863? when he died. Also a short history of his involvement with the lodge. Mr Freeman said that it was at a lodge meeting where the membership voted to form a unit of infantry and march off to Virginia. He said that they left from the meeting and didn't go home. He could not understand why his grandpa Lt Henry Hosch had joined since he was 50 at the time with a farm, a wife, and seven children. He ran the farm by mail from the battle lines. He was killed and never made it home alive. He is buried in Hoschton. . . . submitted by George B. Williams
