The Atlanta Constitution  June 7, 1883
Athens Banner: Mr. Allen Chandler, of Jackson county, is reported to have 
recently had a shrapnel shot removed from his shoulder, which had been in his 
neck and the shoulder together since 1863, or about twenty years.  The shot 
was removed by Dr. L G Hardman, of Harmony Grove, and Mr. Chandler has been 
greatly relieved by the removal.
