He was born on September 23, 1921, in Banks County, and was the son of the late Lewis Milton and Pearl Garrison Ayers. He was retired from Toccoa Casket Company and was a member of the Straightway Baptist Church in Toccoa. He was a veteran, having served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Rea Carlan Ayers; a daughter, Betty Francine Lilley; brothers, Conrad Ayers, Tom Ayers; and sisters, Mildred Norris, Mozelle Kennedy, Hazel Foster, Bierce Brown, and Delia Niel Moravec. Survivors include a daughter, Reba Sue Ayers Ginn, Commerce; five grandchildren, Jamie Jordan, Hartwell, Patricia Ginn, Golden Meadow, La., Keith Ginn, Commerce, Phil Cobb, Fort Worth, Texas, Mark Cobb, Carnesville; six great-grandchildren, Christy Ramey, Shane and Kaleb Cobb, Samantha Ginn, Ben and Anna Cobb; one brother, John Emerson Ayers, Seneca, S.C.; and one sister, Troyce Kazee, Baldwin. Funeral services were held Friday, June 30, at B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home with the Rev. Truitt Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Nails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
