Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Thornton Baker and Annie Reed Cabe. He was the founder of Cabe Enterprises, opened the Winder KFC 30 years ago, and went on to build seven Western Sizzlin Steakhouses, three Kentucky Fried Chicken and three Jeffery’s Sports Grill restaurants. He was still active in his business at 74 years old. He was a loving father and grandfather, according to loved ones. Mr. Cabe was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bradley. Survivors include his wife, Frankie F. Cabe, Winder; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Lorri Cabe, Winder; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and David Rosenzweig, and Melanie and Al Maddox, all of Winder; four grandchildren, Emma Rosenzweig, Jessica Maddox, Savannah Maddox, Hunter Maddox; and two sisters, Irene Fisher, and Gladys Clark, both of Sylva, N.C. Funeral services were held Monday, July 10, at the Winder First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Talley officiating. Burial was in Sylva, N.C. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tree House or Homeless Shelter. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, was in charge of arrangements.
