Mr. Davidson, an attorney, had long been active in the civic, judicial, political, educational and religious life of Jackson County. He was a partner at the Davidson, Hopkins and Alexander law firm in Jefferson and was a former mayor of Jefferson, former chairman of the Jefferson Board of Education, former chairman of the Jackson County Democratic Party, former Jackson County State Court judge, former Jefferson Municipal Court judge and former president of The Jackson Herald Inc. Mr. Davidson also was a leader and former trustee at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church, past president of the Jefferson Lions Club, trustee emeritus of Reinhardt College, Waleska, and a member of the Athens Country Club and the Ocean Side Country Club, Ormond Beach, Fla. The attorney was a United States Navy veteran, having served in World War II, and was a former junior vice commander of the Jefferson American Legion post. Mr. Davidson was born on February 11, 1922, in Meriwether County, son of the late Lewis and Gertrude Sullivan Davidson. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law and a long-time critic of UGA football. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Davidson, in October, 2004. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Davidson Daniel and James A. Daniel, Jr., LaGrange; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Robyn Davidson, Jefferson; sister, Allegra Johns, Arizona; brother, Willard Davidson, Villa Rica; six grandchildren, Robert D. Alexander and wife, Lori; Aimee Alexander Lassor and husband, Charles; Scott Alexander Davidson; John Ryan Alexander and wife, Amelia; Katherine Leigh Davidson and Charles Andrew Alexander; two great- grandchildren, Jackson Sullivan Alexander and Denton Lesslie Alexander; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carey Gibson, Pastor, and the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Private burial will follow in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 7, at Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson. Pallbearers will be Robert Alexander, Scott Alexander Davidson, John Ryan Alexander, Charles Andrew Alexander, Charles Lawrence Lassor and Linton Alexander Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Piedmont Bar Association. Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to the Jefferson City Schools Foundation, 575 Washington Street, Jefferson, Ga. 30549, or the First United Methodist Church, 188 Martin St., Jefferson, Ga. 30549.
