H. Gober, on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 14 at 1:30 o'clock. Born Amanda Owen, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Joshua Owen of Anderson County, SC, on Feb. 12, 1845, she moved with her parents to Banks County, GA, when only three years of age. The old Owen home established near Webbs Creek, at that time, still stands. The second in a large family of children she early assumed more than her part of the family's responsibilities and from that time until the infirmities of age forbade, she continued to bear unflinchingly her part wherever that part was found. The War Between the States came just as she was entering young ladyhood and so often she remarked that the cruel war cheated her of the happiest years of her life. Imddediately after the war, at the age of nineteen, she was married to Levi H. Gober, who had just returned from four years of service in the war. Together, with slaves freed, money valueless, the went to work on the farm. The rearing of a large family and providing for their needs and education prevented an accumulation of wealth but did not prevent a whole-hearted entrance into shouldering their part in church and community affairs. Mrs. Gober, when quite young, united with the Presbyterian church at Homer, where the Rev. Groves H. Cartledge served as pastor. After marriage she united with the Methodist church of which her husband was a member. They retained their membership at New Salem until more than forty years ago they moved their membership to Commerce where they were loyal members until the end came. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. F. E. Crutcher officiating, Rev. H. R. Foster of the Presbyterian church offering prayer. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. A. G. Hicks of Reynolds, GA, Mrs. P. B. Trawick of Commerce; three sons, Marvin Gober of San Francisco, CA, Dr. O. F. Gober of Temple, Texas, Linus T. Gober of Brownwood, Texas; 8 grandchildren, 4 great granchildren, and one sister, Mrs. E. B. Watson of Commerce. Interment was in Grey Hill Cemetery, with Little-Ward Funeral Directors in charge.
